Black Marks on clothes – Hoover HNL7166

HI guys I have a Hoover HNL7166, and we’re noticing some black marks on some of the clothes.

We’ve tried cleaning out the door seal, and also ensuring that the soap tray has been cleaned out, but it still seems to happen.

We’ve been through different boxes of wash powder, (all the same make) and still it occurs. Randomly though.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

There does appear to be some black marks in the door seal, but we’ve tried cleaning this out, but to no avail. It wont shift at all, and due to this i’m not sure if this is the cause.

Hi Tom
Do you put the machine through a 90deg wash once a month? Pref with a steriliser / de-scaler.

Because we wash at 30 and 40 deg, these temps aren’t hot enough to kill the bacteria that grows in the machine or dissolve the grease that comes off your cloths. This builds up behind the tub and eventually will come through in the form of spotting.

The other cause could be grease from the bearings, are they getting noisy on a spin?

Its very rare for grease from the bearings to actually get back inside the drum and onto the clothes. 😉

Hi Steve, I hadn’t done that before. So i’ve just set that off on its merry way now. (I read in the manual last night)

yesterday i went to a HOOVER HNL842-80. The customer complained that there were BROWN marks light coloured garments. she said that she had done a series of washes with the usual array of w/machine sleaners, de-greasers flushers on 90c 60c washes. the browm marks wash off when she rinses under a tap. the door seal is marked with the usual mould. she seems to have done all the usual “cleaning/refreshing” programs to no avail. is this a problem with this range of HOOVER w/m. thanks
