My Blomberg washing machine has started leaking lather from the under the front of the soap tray and as the wash progresses, as the rotating action pauses and water is above the door seal from the door.

I can’t remember how old it is but at least 5 years. Is this a repair job or bin?

If the latter whats a good reasonable priced machine – loads of info on here about whats crappy but v little about what apart from Miele which i can’t afford is good. I hope to keep a machine for a minimum of 7 years.

It needs to be quiet as I have an open plan living kitchen.

The LG Direct Drive models are sexy but i’ve been put off after reading about the brand on here – does the direct drive make a difference (not the steam models)?

    Many thanks

Have you given the soap box a good clean yet? It could just be a build up of detergent in the soap dispenser hose so it may be worth running a few rinses only to clear any residues in there before you bin it or get someone in to have a look.

On replacement, well I would say ISE. 😉

The problem is with the Miele recommendations that other than ISE10 and Miele there’s not a lot that we can honestly say is built to that sort of quality which will see out well over a decade’s worth of use.

ISE5 is a reasonable balance of quality, value and longevity and I’d expect one to last ten years or so.

LG I’m not convinced about at all. The machines are okay but appear to suffer bearing failures at about 4-5 years and the direct drive on them doesn’t seem to make a lot of difference when you plonk them on a wooden floor.
