Keymasterits a full height fridge
seems that a “thermostat” of some kind has gona as it doesnt seem to switch off when it reaches a certain temperature and as a result keeps cooling to the point of ice appearing on the inside back wall
any ideas on what the problem and more importantly how it can be fixed
cheers 😉December 7, 2004 at 8:43 pm #121166kwatt
KeymasterHi,
Yes, most likely the thermostat has gone on it.
If you give us some more information, like a model number at least we may be able to help a bit more.

cant find any model details on the unit it self except Blomberg A class (which i assusme is the energy rating)
however google search has found me this
BLOMBERG BC96A larder fridge

which pretty much looks like it.
Is the thermostat something the i can fix myself who is it a trade only job ?ps the glass at the bottom above the pull out drawer is also cracked are replacements of that available ?
thanks

KeymasterThe model number has to be right otherwise you’re liable to get incorrect spares and/or information.
It’s a bit like saying, “I want a wheel bearing for a Fiesta but have no idea about the year or VIN.”
It should be on the rating plate down around the crisper drawer at the bottom.

It should produce ice at the back inside of course, then automatically defrost it. If it continues to build ice then the acid test is if it freezes your food. If it does then you’re looking at a stat, but if it doesn’t then it may well be the compressor or it has a coolant leak. Check first that the door seals correctly all around, particularly at the bottom, and that the light goes off when you shut the door (you should just be able to see it before the door completely closes…doing it with the room light off helps). If it turns out to be a leak or weak compressor then its time for a very expensive repair, or more likely a new machine.

ohhh…and the bottom glass?…quickest and cheapest way is to go down to the glazers with the precise measurements (lengthxwidthxthickness) and get some cut…just ask them to grind the edges for you
