Blomberg Frost-free not working

Hi, I have a Blomberg Frost Free fridge freezer, and I’ve had an engineer out to look at it (I’ve used him loads of times and he seems good and fair). The problem is in the freezer, at the top of the freezer is a ‘grille’ and underneath is what looks like a thick silver / aluminium sheet. This is apparently a heater of some description and this is not working. This means that water is dripping down the back of the inside freezer compartment, and dripping down, freezing in large blocks down the back of the drawers and on the base. Can anyone tell me the correct name for this and / or where I can get one. My engineer has been trying to get one from his supplier for almost 6 months!
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hiya,

Blomberg was only sold (so far as I know) by Comet in the UK but it was mostly made by Brandt Group who have, nicley, just withdrawn everyone’s access to their spares lookup system in the UK. This may be part of the problem that you’re having, but if you poin the repairer that you’re using in this direction we may well be able to help him out. 😉

the normal cause for the fault that you have is that the drain hole is blocked or that the seal that the drain fits into is not sealing correctly.

if the heater that this plate was faulty it would cause the whole of the evaperator to ice up.

the easiest cure for the seal problem is to use a sealant that looks like and is virtually bluetak.

place this in a u shap around the bottom of the drain channel inside before you push thedrainage tray back and this will normally cure the problem.

Thanks for your help before, but I still haven’t been able to resolve it. From outside the freezer there is no access to the drain channel; from the outside a black, concertina type rubber pipe goes from the rear of the freezer area to the bottom of the whole unit to the ??motor. It lies above a white/clear plastic tray, which appears to have been dry for a long period. The back of the freezer is still icing up completely, from the top down, forming a deep layer of ice on the bottom of the freezer unit, dripping down the back of each draw forming thick icicles.

My engineer still hasn’t come up with the part and seems to just fend me off whenever I ring. Can anyone come up with another suggestion?

Hi Samantha,

If it is Brandt, as I suspect, then parts (I am told) are nothing short of a nightmare at the moment so much so that I’ve stopped all Brandt Group work even on a chargeable basis as it’s simply not worth the grief from teh poor customers. It’s better (in my opinion) to be up front and tell people that we just don’t service the product than leave people hanging for weeks waiting on spares that may or may not arrive.

Sadly this means that Brandt, Ocean, De Detriech and Blomberg along with a few other brands we just don’t want to know about.

So if it is a Brandt in disguise then there’s two choices for the repairer, wait for ages on the spares or order from Comet and pay silly money for them, not much of a choice I’m afraid. 😕

Thanks so much for the speedy reply. I’m going to try comet as you suggest, but at this rate it looks as if I’m going to have to buy a new freezer.
