My 4 year old John Lewis JLFZW1806 frost free freezer (made by Electrolux I believe) will no longer get down to the correct temperature.

Having been fully defrosted, re-gassed and had the 2 internal sensors replaced, it worked for a few weeks, but now will not get down below about -7.

I’ve looked at the PCB and found that one of the Triacs (ACST67S) has blown and part of a track on the printed circuit itself is missing.

So, does anyone try and repair PCBs these days or do I need a replacement?

More importantly, when a PCB fails like this, is it likely to be simply a failed PCB or caused by another faulty part? Or to put it bluntly, am I likely to blow a replacement PCB?

    Thanks…

with a bang like this there has to be a reason
you would need to find out what jod the triac does and in frost free units it could be lamps, fans, compressor etc
you would need to trace the wiring and find out

repairing the triac and board track would not be a prob but other components might have gone so it may be unrepairable

    Hi,
Yes I specialise in PCB repairs and have just finished a Daewoo Board for a side by side in Egypt.
Daewoo could not help since it was not a UK model.
Get in touch john-broderick@hotmail.com if you need some help.

I might well have taken you up on the offer bb, however the faulty freezer has now been replaced by a new one. It seemed a waste to get rid of it, but trying to get it fixed had dragged on too long.

Thanks anyway for taking the time to reply…
