ParticipantI know there is a thread about this somewhere…but can i find it 😕
Got the odd 1 or 2 customers (got loads of ‘odd’ customers actually) with Bosch Classix Excell etc. variety machines with softener not going down.
Valves meter ok, have blown through tubes, poked cable ties up softener holes etc. Still no joy 👿Help!

Very likely the valve is at fault if the water channel and hoses are clear. Both valves are energised together during final rinse to ensure flow is directed down central channel, if one or both valves aren’t giving a balanced flow at that point it isn’t going to work!

have you actually stripped down the dispenser top? very likely it’s still full of crud.

MervI do loads of those round here, as we have v.soft water. Saying that, I’ve been told that the conditioner fires back up into the top of the drawer when the water comes down 😕

The only one I carry on the van (and it fits a few different models) is 265957. And they only cost about a fiver IIRC, so not big stock outlay there.
But in truth taking the top off and replacing it with a new one is all very fine. But the amount of time it takes to do that you can just as easily clean the old one like new and put it back TBH. A bit of elbow grease being applied and seen to be done by your customer is well worth a few extra quid labour charge anyway. 😉
Taking up Goatboys point if I may…..

‘Tis true, conditioner can splash up into the small fabric conditioner holes and quickly turn into progressive malodorus bacteria starting the problem all over again. Hand fisted users splashing the stuff and detergent powder every which way will quickly undo all your hard efforts. And a customer recall shouting down the phone saying you only did it last month, worked for a few washes now it don’t?
So I find it’s best to demonstrate the ‘scrubbing it clean method’ in front of the customer rather than just bunging a new part in. The former will show the need for cleaning and caring rather than switching on a swearing!

ParticipantIt is possible to ‘bend’ out the center section of these dispenser tops to allow proper access to the shallow channel above the holes.
in fact , i often break the flap off , clean the holes out , run a bottle brush into the dspenser top where the center piece was and then the flap will clip back in !!! If its the 4 square hole top , whilst the flap is out i’ll clip out the crosspiece to make it one big square hole. This allows easier cleaning and less chance of the bacteria taking hold .
Alternatively , Next time you have change a dispenser top , keep the old one and you can then clean this one out and use it as a new one next time….keeping that one to be cleaned…..repeat as required 🙂

Yeah, I’m sure you’re right there Paul, chopping out the 4 holes in the Bosch seems a go idea. Zanussi are just as much a problem, so a bit of radical intervention may be the best solution?
Reconning an old dispenser top is another great idea. Smacks of reconning WMA drum units which (and such like) an industry wide practice after all said and done. 😉

Thanks for all the input
I think the idea of always having a ready cleaned out dispenser is a cracker.
Had a thought after reading Martins reply that both valves are energised, of knocking up a power lead to connect to both valves to energise them and thus be able to check the operation of softener at will.

It’s pretty easy to do the test procedure for the valves on a Bosch washer. This doesnt count on the ‘touch control’ machines.
Turn the washer off (12 o’clock). Hold down the two buttons further-most on the RHS. While holding the buttons, turn the selector one click anti, and wait.
After a few seconds, your into the test procedure, and two lights are lit on the face. You can let go of the buttons now 😉
Moving anti and pressing the start button will test different compoents. I dont know what all the different posistions are, but the bottom posistions (drain, spin, rinses, etc) test the values. First hot (even when there aint hot), then one cold, then the other cold, then both cold.
Turn selector off to exit test procedure.

Update
Stripped dispenser down, gave the top a jetwashing, customer now happy!
Have to wait and see how long it lasts?
Thanks again for input.
