Hi Paul , not sure that model number is complete . However , there are a couple of possibilities….
The fan could be starting to seize . As these fans suck air , rather than blow , they can develop a build up of grease within the fan motor itself or , more often , on the motor’s rear support legs . This can hamper the rotation of the fan shaft.
OR
The fan blade is catching on the rear plate . These sometimes get a build-up on the inside of the central grill which the fan blade catches on.
OR
It could be that if he’s selecting and using circotherm grilling , the fan will work intermittently as a matter of course.
