ParticipantAfternoon all,.
Just stumbled across this forum, and hopefully someone can help me?
We started experiencing horrible smelling scummy greasy bits on our washing, which i have been told is grease/detergent deposits (Probably stemming from using non-bio for the baby clothes)
I have been trying countless maintenence washes with 1 bag of Soda Crystals, but still when I a test rinse afterwards there is loads more of the stuff floating around.
Can anyone recommend anything alse to try? – I am getting the feeling i will need to shell out for a new drum (if they are available) or a new machine.
Very grateful for any replies!
Cheers
Jon

Hi Jon,
A browse through this section should help a lot.
The plan is to identify the cause then see what can be done to solve it.

bosch machines plus many others suffer from this, years of low temperature washes and too much detergent, another thing to watch out for is body oils/creams that are used and chemicals from work clothes, i have found with the bosch machines that sludge builds up at the hardest point to get to which is at the rear of the drum!

I hope to have, within the next couple of weeks, a new product that cleans this gunk out of the machines but, like most of these things it seems to take an age to get anything organised.
When itβs available there will be a news item on the front page and I hope to have it available for pre-order at some point next week.
So if you can bear with it for a couple of weeks there may be a simple cure.

It’s the sludge breaking up inside the tank – now that you’ve done the service wash (and it is taking effect) the stuff is falling off the inside of the machine – you’ll get a few more before it’s finished. Chuck in a couple of old towels and do a few more loads. When it stops, make sure that the service wash is performed at least once a month to stop the sludge reforming.

Hi Jon,
I said I would update you and, since I have confirmation this morning that we are getting Affresh into the UK and we can actually sell it now, here’s the link to it
I’ve been watching and learning about this for months as it combats a number of problems with smells/odours from front loading washing machines which is a problem. The difference with Affresh is that it is designed to break up the residue and get rid of it down the drain which sometimes bleach alone just won’t do.
The preliminary delivery date for it is first week in March.
Affresh website here and so far we have it exclusively in the UK.

Thanks Kwatt, i will look into ordering some if the issue comes back!
I couldnt work out why after a maintence wash(that left the machine sparkling) that a rinse program would drag up more muck?
Then I noticed that the rinse program used more water than the rinse in a wash program , this higher level of water was reaching futher up the drum.
So, in a mad angry moment, I tipped 2 X 1kg bags of soda crystals in , put it on a 90 deg. wash,. and then added more water. This seems to have done the trick! done about 8 or 9 loads so far with no probs.Markers placed in calendar to remind us to do maintenance washes π
