ParticipantHi Forum. I have an issue with a Bosch 1400 washing machine. Model Number WAA28168GB/29. Just recently I am unable to select just a spin or rinse cycle. On all the wash cycles there are no issues. After a normal wash it rinses and spins ok. I just cannot select just a spin or rinse. If the control is selected to spin it goes through a wash cycle but will not spin at the end. To drain and spin you have to select a normal wash. On ‘Googling’ the subject all hits came back with the brushes causing the issue. So ordered genuine Bosch Brushes. Took old ones out and they had only worn about 3 to 4mm down compared to the new items, so was very doubtful they were the cause…but replaced them anyway….still the same though…washes ok but cannot select just a spin….very annoying for delicates etc…

Very odd? What happens when you just select ‘Drain?’

Quick drain ok….when done the spin light flashes. Turn control to off door opens fine. Im going to do a cycle on the Spin setting to see what happens….will update later. I have not tried that cycle since replacing the brushes, only tried the control set to spin to see what lights up

It should not do that. Spin LED flashing indicates a problem with the heater. I’d be checking out the heater with a Megger myself. 😉

Just had a reply from justanswer.co.uk “Hi Charlie, unfortunately the brushes are fine. Or were fine.
That would never cause this problem.
Not sure who told you that?
The problem is in the main control board.
To fix this you would need to replace the main control board (not cheap) unfortunately. Just so you know I have been an appliance tech for over 30 years.
But the best place to get that for price and reliability would be Espares, I have included for your convenience their contact information below. It is really easy to replace and if you choose to order the board, I will be here to help you at no additional cost.
I will stick with you until this is fixed and working as it should.
PLEASE RATE KINDLY AT THIS TIME, your question will NOT close or TIME OUT 😉
No additional cost to you to rate.
Thank you Charlie and have a great day!
Tech Michael” so what do you guys think?July 16, 2014 at 4:12 pm #416774Martin

We can all shout REPLACE THE PCB in the full and certain knowledge you would never go to such an expense but simply scrap the machine. So what I think is his advice has little foundation without at least eliminating other reasons beforehand. I have suggested checking out the heater as the error code (flashing SPIN LED) indicates thus. And with 50 yrs experience in the trade that would be my next move. 😉
P.s We make NO charge for this by the way. 😀 😉

Excellent advice….heater check is just a resistance test looking for an open circuit I guess?

Yes but more importantly an earth leakage test as well.
