Any chance of running them on the bench to dry them out. Did this with some Crosslee T/D elements with no problems.

Your right you should’nt have to dry them out at that price but it happens with all sorts of stuff, couple of years ago I was contracting with an Electrical firm installing a £10K Sauna. As soon as you turned the Sauna on the RCD went out, so I Meggered it & got about 550K to Earth. I had to run it for over 4 Hours with the Earth disconnected to get the insulation back up stop it Tripping.

Masterpart do a pair of pattern ones for about £6 each. I got two and they were both off the scale.

Well, truth be known, that’s how these elements often come. Besides it’s far better, and far cheaper not to buy the Bosch ones at all. They are all Gorenje after all and Masterpart’s (GJ34100) @ around £6 is the way to go.
Tip: When fitting to the dryer temporarily disconnect the earth at the terminal block and run for 5 minutes or more. You’ll find that clears the earth leak a treat. Reconnect the earth tag and job done. So far (touch wood) I’ve not had any recalls or problems with them.
I certainly would stump up Bosch’s ridiculous prices but instead send them back and ask for a refund.

absolute nonsence Martin. Just checked and these are my 52nd and 53rd of these and this is the first time I have had a problem. If they had been £6 repalcements then I would have expected trouble.

The point you are missing is that there should be no need to do this frankly cowboy operation when fitting a genuine part.

Thank you for stating the obvious Martin, what did you think? Just sit back and swallow the loss?

52nd/53rd time eh? You’ve been lucky, not an experience that I or many on this forum can testify to.

So now I’m branded a cowboy, well I’m not surprised at that reaction to be frank. I asked for it after all said and done and I welcome your opinion in this instance.8)

I’m done with offering you any more comment on the subject Mark. Perhaps we can talk about it tomorrow over a beer and you’ll find that cowboys like me are very thick skinned.
Meanwhile, Would you like me to bring along a GJ34100 Element?….Could get you out of a problem…??….Don’t answer that as I’m coming in my van and have at least 2 on board anyway….think about it meanwhile! 😉

Well, 3 years on and whats changed? Nothing.
I have been happily fitting Masterpart elements since the debacle above but find they are out of stock and as I needed one urgently I ordered the genuine article and even ordered a second for stock. Will be fine, obviously they have sorted this issue by now…….
What do you think the answer to that is? Both have earth faults, (around 3.2 m when cold which falls to 0.01m when hot) exactly the same as before and yes I have tried “burning them off” with no success.
Anyone know of a source of pattern ones with stock?February 19, 2014 at 6:49 pm #345492Martin
