OK I have looked a few things already and am looking for advice on how I should proceed. The washing machine is over 10 years and has operated faultlessly until now.
firstly there are no error codes, that I can see, it seems to work as always but motor is not turning the drum. They will turn by hand. I removed the motor and found the brushes were worn down to about 5mm in length so got some new ones, cleaned the carbon off the commutator, and refitted. Still no joy with the motor.
Could it be the motor, can I test it easily to see if it is.
Is there a diagnostic setting I can put the machine in see if it will tell me the problem. Found some instructions online to rest fault codes but doesn’t seem to have the bottom and lights it was referring to.Any help would be appreciated before I have to rule out getting it repaired and spending £300 on a new one.
Thanks.

There is a thermal fuse on the brush ring unit so that made have tripped. Easy to check, just test for continuity between the motor plug connections.

So it the bottom pin is pin 1 I have continuity between 1&2 1&3 and 2&3. Does this mean the thermal fuse is OK?

There’s 8 pins I see in the pic so you should have continuity between them all. By that I mean each pin should have continuity with at least one other.

There isn’t continuity between any of the rest of the pins. Does this mean the motor is now an expensive paperweight? and replacing a motor on a 10year old plus machine would be false economy?

Not good news for sure. I did suspect a failing there hence why I asked the question . 🙁

any update on this shades?? whilst I have a different Bosch machine , 1400 Exxcel, I suspect the motor is the same, and I have a similar issue in that mine will now spin, but for reduced time , and noisey/arcing.
Is there an online drawing for the pin outs Martin? I noticed my last pin is not connected however…February 16, 2014 at 4:57 pm #407983Martin

Your motor’s armature is buggered! 🙁

OH 🙁 ….
I guess I’d better strip it out again and check then 🙁
Is there any check I can do from the plug/terminals? or is it strip it right out to check across the com bars individually?
I was going to replace the bearings while I had it out to change the brushes, but was worried about what I assume is the speed feedback circuit/tacho, as the wires were hairlike….. so I would have checked it out if I had, but as everyone says, when it’s your own, there’s a pressure on your shoulder suggesting it needs to be back together 😉
If I can’t do anything from the pins, I’ll strip it out tomorrow morning 🙁 I’ve got my multimeter here but no Megger, but I gather from your statement I’m not likley to need the Megger 🙁
Cheers(for the bad news….)Nick
