ParticipantBefore I go out to visit this dryer,
the customer rang to say that her dryer is taking ages to dry and it wasn’t hot enough. I asked for model number and she gave me xyz 1234/00 – sounds like a non existence number and quoted off from the handbook!
Am I right in thinking that the heating element is the problem? As it common with other tumble dryer of different manufacturer like Zanussi.
I am aware that some machines have sensors that could be playing up so I look out for it and are the sensors open circuit or closed circuit? Are they located near the heater or elsewhere?

I visited the tumble dryer, it’s the condensing one. First condensing I’ve ever worked on…
I went through the basics such as earth continuity which is fine, insulation is fine.
Checked the thermo on the heater – it’s closed circuit
the heater unit via the plug – one side is 21ohms and the other is 111ohms
the black thing I presume it’s the sensor – reading is 21ohms
water pump is fine.
Could not get to the moisture sensor but how on earth do I test it, scrubbed it clean for good measure.Slight leak on the front chamber which it is not sealed up tight, weak clips I think.
So I can’t find any obvious faults which is causing the poor heating. Before I took the cover off, I checked the heat which was lukewarm, then after I carried out the test with the probes, prodding and checking the connections, the dryer seems to normal with strong heat output. Not sure what I did to make it work. Me thinks it could be dust or lose connection somewhere that got shifted when I moved it.
I keep wondering if the heater unit is the culprit due to the fairly high resistance on the heater unit – perhaps it’s for the low heat setting? rather tricky to do insulation test on the heater unit so I declined.
any thoughts?
BTW – I can’t seem to get parts for this dryer (from three different suppliers) – either it’s too old or too new or too problematic?

plentyof parts info and availability here
I have had several with the same problem, you need a clamp meter to measure the current drawn and chances are it will be only around 3-4 amps while heating, it should be considerably more.
If this is the problem then it will be the power module behind the facia, take it out and out of its case and with any luck one of the heater relays will have a obvious dry solder joint on it. If not then it may be the relay contacts themselves, new board around £180 so probably BER if that is the case, worth looking at as I have had 3 with dry joints-dab of the iron and away they go. -
