Our 2 year old condenser dryer drys our clothes, but the water doesn’t leave via the drain pipe it just accumulates in the bottom of the appliance. Seems likely to be a pump issue? Fluff and hard water scaling are a possibility. I have had the front and back off, but I can’t spot anything that looks remotely like a pump housing that I could scrub, clean out etc.

Is this terminal? Will the repair cost more than a new one? (available for £270 ish on the net)

You’ve picked a good one here. This is the infamous White Knight Condenser dryer (with a Bosch badge stuck on the front).

There is a lift pump in the bottom, however, the blockage is usually to be found in the chamber on the rear panel where a drain hose may be attached. This is very susceptible to blocking up. Power off you are going to investigate.

Beyond that, it’s usually a complete demolition job to strip the base out. Pro help is often the best route to go for this – check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW engineer in your area.

Is that ‘infamous’ because its good or ‘infamous’ because its unreliable and I should bin it and start again?

Can anyone recommend a good condenser dryer?

It’s infamous (in the trade) because it’s a total s@d to work on….

The “proper” Bosch dryers are excellent (“Made in Germany” label, not “Made in EU”) but relatively expensive. Zanussi and Whirlpool do perfectly adequate models.

Check the hose coupling first – it’s an easy fix if that’s all that’s wrong.
