ParticipantDear All,
I hope someone can offer a solution to this one- I have scoured the forums and cannot find anyone with a similar problem.
My neighbour has a WFL2063GB/12 Classix 1000 washing machine. Its about 6 years old used about once a fortnight, light loads.
A few weeks ago “it stopped working” and I offered to have a quick look at it-I’m not really an engineer but am not fightened to take things apart.
I was told “it just stopped working”. The lady owner could not explain more.
So the game commensed….
😕
Firstly I noted when setting it to run through a wash program I could hear all the usual clicks upto the point where water should rush in, but no water, and no drum turning.
So I figured it’s either the inlet valve sticking, or the motor brushes worn out.
Took the motor out and found the brushes to be about 12mm long.
So replaced the inlet valve and brushes whilst I was there and switched her back on…
No what happens is:
water rushes in when expected (and pumps out when put on drain), but when set to any program that asks the drum to rotate it does so at Full Speed!!! for about 1-3 rotations and then cuts out.
I assume there is some form of safety cut out to stop the thing rotating into orbit! and there may be some kind of speed/rotation feedback dector I have accidentally knocked off/disconnected. I’ve had a look but am not sure what to look for.
I’ve taken the motor out- no obvious loose wires there, and cannot seen anything else that would detect how fast the drum is going. Motor is attached by a multiplug, (and a separate earth wire) with all wires apparently intact.
So if anyone can please tell me what I’ve done wrong I’ll be eternally grateful.
😀
Thanking you all in advance,Alex (and the old lady Marta nextdoor)

The motor speed is detected by a tachometric generator on the back of the motor. If the coil is damaged or broken then this is exactly what I’d expect it to do.

Agreed ,sounds like a motor/tacho problem.

Ok. Thanks for the replies K and applianceman.
So how do I test the coil/tacho and what should I do?
I’ve seen the complete motors are not much less than a new machine.June 1, 2011 at 10:43 pm #352626shamusthegreat

Ps.
Is the broken tacho something I probably did when replacing the brushes?
I have a multimeter.January 15, 2013 at 1:26 pm #352627shamusthegreat

Just to let everyone know in the end I couldn’t fix it (The coiled tested okay) and so bought a reconditioned.
Many thanks anyway for the advice -
