The drum in my washer does not turn either during the wash or spin cycle. I have booked it in for repair but it cannot be done till Monday. However, on the phone they advised to check the filter was clear. Would this completely stop the drum from turning? Also, from the instruction manuel it says that the filter is on the bottom right hand corner of the machine and I have opened it and checked that it is moving freely. Is this the only filter there is or is there somewhere else I should look? Many thanks for any help.

The machine uses a carbon brush drive motor, the carbons will have worn away, thus stopping the motor.

A badly choked filter may restrict the machines ability to spin properly. It would not affect the tumbling action during wash.

The reason they suggest you check the filter is that if the appliance doesn’t drain completely , it won’t spin.
The sympton of this would be the drum still full of water. From your description , i’d definitely suggest it was the carbon brushes as advised by my flightless friend above 🙂
Has it been making a loud scraping/crackling sound of late ? This is also a sign of wearing brushes.

Thanks for replies. Have got a repair man coming on Monday so, hopefully, will get machine sorted. Replies were very helpful though so thanks once again.
