I hope someone can offer us some help or advice. Our 6 year old machine, part no WEA24162UK/1, has stopped spinning.

The front panel display works allowing us to select programs. The machine pumps water in and out. We’ve taken the top and back access panel off and the belt is in good condition with a decent tension. There is not the normal resistance if we spin the drum though. We had an hours power cut the other day but the machine was not on. We believe the machine has worked since the power cut albeit it made a strange whirring noise and then didn’t spin on the next wash. Initially we suspected the brushes, there is a fair bit of carbon dust on the motor and in the back of the washing machine. But having seen a video on how to replace the brushes and it’s symptoms I am now suspecting that the motor has gone.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have no idea just what video you have been watching but your ‘symptoms ‘ sound exactly like worn brushes, have you actually removed and checked them?

    Hi

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

No I haven’t removed the brushes yet but will try that tomorrow now.

The video was on the eSpares web site. It suggested symptoms of worn brushes are if the motor run half heartily, intermittent, sparks or not at all. We obviously fall into this last category but I didn’t spot this on first viewing. Our machine worked one day and then didn’t the next.

Thanks again, I’ll check the carbon brushes.

    Hi All

Just to update and close this thread. It was the carbon brushes, which I have replaced and we are back up and running.

    Thanks

    Mike
