ParticipantNot sure if this has been asked before, but here goes. My Bosch washing machine (just over 10 years old) has started to make a noise briefly that sounds like a door with squeaky hinges opening/closing when it starts moving the drum or stops moving the drum. After the drum has started to rotate (either in wash cycle or spin) there is no noise that I wouldn’t expect.
Belt slipping? Bearings? Links to the same problem that has been asked previously?

KeymasterCheck the dampers, shock absorber looking things at the bottom of the drum.

ParticipantCould be wearing out drum oil seal/lack of grease this one is fairly common BUT it can go on for a while but then sadly the proof that it is that is when the front bearing goes rumbley. Could be belt – the squeaky noise tends to disappear after it gets a bit warm though no guarantee of that. Give us the complete model number please so we know exactly what model you have rather than relying soley on the model details you have told us – some models are a complete pain to get at the oil seal and some models if the bearings go you are supposed to buy the rear half of the tank which is not inexpensive best bet to tell the difference is to have an empty machine, remove the belt then relve the drum by hand and see if there is a noise or not if not it is either luck, or the belt or poss suspension depending upon what suspesion it has been fitted with. The model number begins with Enr found on a lable top of the inner door frame.

ModeratorI personally would lubricant the top springs and change the dampers as kwatt has said as bosch do have issues with these don’t think it will be belt and oil seal very unlikely

ParticipantHi – sorry about the very (very!) long delay in responding.
E-Nr: WAE24369GB/40
FD 9404 601700The sound went away for subsequent washes, so the urgency went out of the situation – but now it’s come back again after going “on holiday” for the Summer (the sound, not me). Same as before – while it’s in a wash or spin cycle, it sounds normal, it mostly makes this squeak when doing a slow rotation between wash/spin modes and also after a wash when I rotate the (full or empty) drum by hand – but if I do this before a wash, there’s no unusual sound. I just noticed that it was making the sound while coming up to speed on a spin cycle, but once it was up to normal spin speed, I didn’t hear it.
It doesn’t seem to be associated with how much I put in the machine – but I wouldn’t swear to that.
Sometimes, it doesn’t make the noise at all for the whole duration of a cycle – fault finding is so much easier when the fault isn’t intermittent!

ParticipantSince you do not think it is the suspension and you`ve discounted the drum oil seal I suggest you so this: Pull the machine out, remove the back panel and work top. Put the machine on without any clothes on the same programme you know the noise occurs. Let the machine run and get hot them listen out for the noise if it does 1) turn the power OFF,2) turn the drum by hand via the drum pulley – does it still squeak? If yes remove belt, does it still squeak? No, it`ll be the belt, Yes, it`ll be the oil seal. Neither of those things then 3)push up and down from the top of the machine to test out the suspension, does that make a noise? no? or yes? if yes the bottom suspension legs are shot If you can take a good photo of the dampers as thgey fit different ones the ones listed are 66.67 quid each 11047540 via bosch website (utterly scandalous) BUT they might be fitted with a repairable set hence the a photo required. OR the top spring ends might need regreasing – this was fairly common, use car / general purpose grease. There is not much left that would make that noise other than a distorted door seal rubbing on the drum though unlikely as water acts as a “lubricant” so you can discount that one I should think.
I think it might be the oil seal and if so bad luck.October 13, 2024 at 7:28 am #490894andyjawa
ParticipantI think it might be the oil seal and if so bad luck. OR the top of the springs need greasing hopefully it is the latter.

ParticipantHi Andyjawa – many thanks for this detailed reply. Once I get round to it (very busy for the next few weeks…), I’ll check out your points and hope it’s just a grease job or new belt.

ParticipantMelody Johnstone. Would you please stop writing nonsense as a ruse to advertising this student ” I can`t be bothered to do my own work so I`ll pay someone to do the work on my behalf” money making racket your`re pushing; are you an American? It is the sort of thing they`re famous for pushing. Butt off this forum and go and get a proper job and if so I wish you luck.
