ParticipantHi all.
I don’t suppose anyone can assist me with this issue.
My fridge has started getting warm and the freezer stops frosting.
When I switch off for a few hours, then start up, eveything works as it should.
However, after an hour or so, the gas stops circuclating in the freezer, the fridge starts to warm and the compressor gets very hot, as it continuously runs.
The thermostat in the fridge only switches on or off. There’s no other setting in between. I’ve replaced this, hoping it was this, but it wasn’t.
I haven’t done a thorough defrost but I have done a couple of hours one, with a hairdryer in the freezer section to speed things up.
I’m satisfied my fridge freezer isn’t completely beyond help but i’m not sure where to go from here.
I have a 14 day return on my stat, starting from yesterday, and would appreciate any help from the more experienced. It cost me £40
I’m a qualified electrician covering all sectors and feel competent in working on my freezer, albeit a little blindly.
Kind Regards
Mike

Also, I might add, is the compressor continues to run until the thermal cut-out activates, then whilst it’s cooling down the freezer defrosts.
I can’t seem to make the compressor stop when the fridge and freezer has reached temperature.

Hi BigLeroy,
Sorry, can’t help you specifically as I’m not a fridge man. Basic knowledge suggests that constant running and no cooling is a system problem – either a blockage or lack of coolant gas – either way there’s no simple (or cheap!) fix.

It sounds like a compressor failure which is expensive and specialised, you can’t DIY it by any means I’m afraid. If I’m right, then somewhere upwards of £150 to fix it.
