ParticipantHi
‘Old’ Classixx dishwasher was working perfectly. Pressed the button to start it running but there was a loud ‘bang’ and the MCB tripped. I replaced the 13A fuse and reset the MCB. The same happened again and it also damaged the switch on the fused outlet.
I would be grateful for any help on the following questions:
– is it very likely to be the suppressor?
– how do I access the suppressor – top panel, side panel, panel at the bottom of the back of machine?
– will there be visible signs of damage to the suppressor?
– should I remove the suppressor but not replace it?
– is there likely to be damage to other components?
All replies appreciated.

ParticipantHi Dave
Thank you for the reply. I tried to upload a photo but the message says that the file is too large. The ‘label’ is imprinted in black writing in the centre on the stainless-steel top edge of the door. There is a rectangular box; inside the box it says:
“Robert Bosch Hausgerate Gmbh
E-Nr
SGS53012GB/21
FD8609 002020″To the right of the box:
“406090240538020207
230V//240V 50Hz
2.3kW//2.5kW
10/16A”The “0” is badly shaped, so it might just be a “C”:
“SGS5C12GB/21”Would be grateful for your thoughts on the problem. (Is it necessary to replace the suppressor after removing it?)

bosch have replaced it with a wired supressor
you should be able to find it cheaper in other places
access from RHS
you can remove it and it should work normally its mainly to stop interference getting into the main supply
and it stops surge damage to electronics

ParticipantHi Dave
Thank you very much for finding the diagrams and part list. I will remove the suppressor and in the short term use a surge protector on the 13A plug while I order a replacement (wired) component. Please be patient if for any reason I need further advice.
All the best and have a great weekend.December 8, 2024 at 10:22 pm #491856driven_mad
ParticipantHi Dave
Some feedback, thank you. The local appliance engineers are fully booked so I have done the following:
– Removed RHS panel (and top panel, of course).
– Identified mains-cable terminal block (white) with suppressor fixed to the back of it.
– Used a screwdriver with a long blade and a fine tip to carefully pry the suppressor away from the terminal block.
– Suppressor was burst open, blackened and leaking brown fluid.
– Connected 13A plug to socket, added dishwasher powder and dishes, and switched on dishwasher.
– Dishwasher performed a full cycle, with no interference to television or radio. The live & neutral spade-terminals for the suppressor are partially hidden behind the plastic shielding between them and the earth spade-terminal. In view of this and the lack of interference, I will not fit a replacement suppressor. However, I will fit a surge protector between the 13A plug and the mains socket (plenty of room as the socket is to one side of the dishwasher, not behind it).
So far, so good! Thank you very much for your assistance.
