    Hello,

First the stuff on the inside door cover that you guys ask:

    SGS53C12UK/01
    Type S1 501B
    FD 8703 04733

Warranty expired in April 2009 – two weeks before the fault symptom.

Description: after 45 minutes of normal operation the drain pump comes on, the machine empties but the pump remains on forever. The only way out of this seems to be to switch off at the door on/off switch then run the reset programme. On the next cycle the same symptom occurs again about 45 minutes into the programme.

    Attempts at self-diagnosis:

I gave the machine rotor arms and both filters (in the machine base) a good clean then used the Finish cleaning product. Still got the same symptom.

After a little experimentation I came up with this; first wait for the symptom (45 minutes or so) then, when the water has drained but the (presumed) pump is still running, open the door while leaving the door power switch ON in an attempt to interrupt (but not stop) the cycle. Then I removed the two filters underneath the bottom wash rotor. Then I slightly lifted the mushroom-shaped thing (is this a float switch?) near the filters. This starts the (presumed) pump, squirts a small jet of water where the filters live and makes the same noise as the “permanent drain” symptom. When I let go of the mushroom-shaped thing the pump continues and the spray continues. I have to tap the top of the mushroom- shaped thing to stop the noise and stop the spray.

Feeling under the mushroom shape there seems to be a plastic membrane. I removed all of the small food deposits around this membrane but still no success. Having put a little bit of “pull” pressure on the mushroom shape it feels as if it doesn’t want to come out that way so I stopped pulling!

That’s all I can tell you. Any ideas?
