Went to a Bosch dishwasher tonight – (ENr. SGS46E02GB/75) the customer reported the salt light had come on so she filled the salt reservior three quarters full (all the salt she had) but on the ensuing wash, ALL the salt was “used at once” from the reservoir, and the crockery/cutlery came out with a white film that appeared (and tasted) to be salt.
Yes, she had the salt fill cap on tightly. I checked the salt res and it was indeedo empty, visual check with panels off showed nothing amiss. Salt regen coil ok (2.26 Kohms). Never come across this fault before.
Can anyone enlighten me & suggest remedy?

99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s the salt cap not tightened. Your customer may have tightened it some more after the event? 😉 😉
Other than that, syphon out the water from the salt container then remove and clean the regeneration valve plunger. Or to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on that score – replace the valve. 🙂

Well of course she swears she had the salt cap properly tightenend!! :rolls:
Question – how would the regeneration valve sticking open allow all that salt (presumably mostly still undissolved crystals) through into the wash chamber?

Well the short answer is that it wouldn’t allow any undissolved salt through. All a sticking salt valve would do is allow salt solution into the ion exchanger. Over a longer period of time (4 or 5 complete wash cycles perhaps) would a full charge of salt disappear. And boy would those crocks be covered in the stuff meanwhile.
Personally if the customer insists that the salt cap was screwed tight all the while then stick in a new salt valve and rest easy knowing you’ve covered all your bases. 😉
