ParticipantFor quite some time now our exxcel auto option has been playing up. We set it to come on during night with the countdown timer (say, 3 hours). Sometimes it just stays at the 3 hour setting, other times it counts down. However, in addition to this many times we get up to find the d/washer still going, other times it has not even started. I have woken up in the early hours and found it has ‘switched off’, when I tap or push the door the lights come on and it continues from where it ‘switched off’. There does not seem to be any actual washing problems. I have scoured the forums but cannot find anything like this problem. Your help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi again,
Well, I am a little surprised here. 69 views and not one suggestion? Have I got the experts stumped on this one? A couple of years ago I had a problem with my freezer which was soon sorted after a couple of replies here, one new part ordered (and sent to France) freezer still working great.
Tomorrow, I am going to take the door panel off and have a look inside (after disconnecting first), as this seems like some sort of loose connection. Unless you know better…….someone?………please.
Regards,
Bob

As you say it is intermittent and you dont get a consistent error-could be all kinds of things…..
What happens if you dont use the time delay?
Are you sure all the door seals are clean and there is nothing trapped between the undertray and bottom of the door-you say there is possibly a bad contact re touching the door?
Could be a loose wire or bad contact on the door switch.
Have you checked the connections to the switch etcJuly 16, 2010 at 6:37 am #324570magnumm44

Thanks for replying. You are of course right that it could be all sorts of things wrong, this is a difficult one to diagnose without seeing the machine .
I believe the machine works Ok running full cycle when started w/o timer, will run it more often like that to see.
Door seals are clean, no obstructions. Will have a look this weekend at the connections.

Bob

I have found in the past that if the mains socket is behind the D/W, the mains plug “melts” into the black bitumen on the rear of the appliance if the machine is pushed up to the socket. When the appliance cools down the plug is then stuck to back of the machine. This can cause an intermittant contact with the mains socket.

Thanks metalmicky but the mains plug is to one side of the appliance so no chance of that happening. Hoping to have a look at it this weekend, though not tomorrow as at the shooting ranges, oh sorry, forgot that’s all banned in the UK!

Hi,
Sorry for the double post, must have been a little trigger happy!
Well, I went to have a go at removing the door panel, but bottled out. I assumed that all I need to do would be to unscrew all the screws around the edge on the inside? Is this correct, or do I need to actually take the door off?
If I do remove the plastic outer casing, will all the controls/buttons etc. fly out? Just after some reassurance here.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Bob

Hi,
Well I have not yet removed the outer door casing, as stated I was not sure. The machine worked last night complete from 3 hour time delay. I would say more often though that it usually cuts out. It has cut out during wash when started w/o time delay, have come down (in morning) to find it still has 87 mins, for example, or no lights at all. Open & shut door and it starts again. Looks like it will have to go to repair shop, if I can find one here in rural france!
Regards,
Bob
