ParticipantHi, has anybody got a part number for the special solder used to repair pin sized holes in dishwasher stainless tanks. Used it a few times while working at Appliance Care but can’t remember the number.

I don’t think it ever had a part number but was just handed out to BSH engineers. Besides Petroputty and other proprietory stuff does the job anyway. (Click on link below) 😉

Thanks Martin. Have since found out the number having bumped into one of my old BSH colleagues this PM. It’s 811540. Already bought some repair putty stuff from a car spares place, so I’m going to give that a go as it’s right in the back corner of the tub, so a bit awkward to solder anyway.

Talking of the Bosch solder, I’ve just stumped up £20 @ BSH for (Pt. no. 811540) and it arrived today through the letterbox in a tiny Jiffy bag in fact. From what I can figure it’s a 6″ piece of what looks like silver solder?
£20???….20 sodding quid (sorry to be so brusque… 👿 ) But I’ve just bought 6″ of wire for….WHAT???
That’s my next question……………What the hell do you do with it? By that I ask specifically, how does one apply said solder onto a hole in a stainless tub? In situ? Braze it on maybe? Oxy -acetilyn flame thrower perhaps? WTF? 😕
I think I’ll stick to using steel putty, never had a problem with that anyway in all these years.
And for anyone that understands German…………

As far as I can remember you can use a standard soldering iron although I recon a gas iron will give a better result ‘cos you can get a small area of the tub much hotter if you do it quickly.
I checked the price of it from bosch when I was given the part number and thought ‘sod that’. I thought you ‘more senior’ engineers would know better Martin !!March 26, 2010 at 5:45 pm #314801chezza

OK Wiz….thanks young ‘un ….OK…straight up now… I figured for the 20 notes BSH were asking I would have got a bag full of solder for that…but I wuz robbed guv…. 😳
So, anyways….I’ve got a big hot tool so I might just give this 6″ piece of nothing a blast with it just to see how effective it is at plugging holes? But I’m not too convinced at this point in time. 🙁
Cheers wiz for helping this old duffer out anyway pal. 😉
