ParticipantPut one of these 419027’s back together the other day. As usual, noted that the big O ring seemed rather over sized.
Anyway, called back for repeat of problem i.e. flooded base, to find that O ring was broken and end sticking out of assembly.
Had foolishly chucked old ring.
Tried to put broken ring back with load of debor but couldn’t get good seal.
Have ordered a couple of metres of 3mm and 4mm nitrile cord from these people

and will go back with improvised splicing kit when it arrives.
In the meantime has anyone else had similar experience? Any hints and tips apprecieted.

Participantyes i have had this problem the seals become stretched and do not fit properly. You will need a seal kit. I have never had one sticking out of pump assembly, this could have only happened as not fitted correctly.

personally tried once to fit a stretched outer seal and it leaked, the old ones never fit back and it has to be a new kit, nothing else seems to work 😕

Thanks for the advice. I’m sure the one I fitted on first visit was new and it must have broken during fitting. I’m pretty sure it was also oversized. Wouldn’t surprise me if they sometimes make the kit up wrong as there are more than one variants.

The nitrile cord kit worked well enough even though the old one turned out to be 5mm and a softer rubber. I fitted one made up using the 4mm cord plus a bit of silicone and it’s apparently still going strong all of a week later!

Your fitting it incorrectly Mike, the O ring sits easy on the outer pump housing as you bayonet lock it into place. You don’t have to stretch it over and I suspect that’s what you’re doing here? The pump impellor kit is fine and the neoprene O ring should seal at treat every time.
Sadly I don’t have a Penguin type video to demonstrate but perhaps you can explain how you replace the impellor kit?

Don’t do many of these. That’s all so long ago now that I don’t remember the details. But if I had thought it was oversized I would not be trying to stretch it, I’d be trying to stuff it in to a space too small for it.
Like I said, it was a new kit and I think they may have put the wrong o ring in it.
Bumped into the customer the other day and he told me it was still going strong. (Looks warily at phone. 😆 ).
