ParticipantOur bosch dishwasher stopped working a while ago and we got a bosch engineer out who said it was the switch panel, he fixed it but ever since then it doesn’t seem to be rinsing properly. Glasses are cloudy and plates often have a chalky residue on them. Does someting need resetting in the switch panel that the engineer forgot to do or do we have a seperate problem.

ParticipantHi oofus (I thought it was bad being Penguin – what are you?),
Cloudiness issues are usually related to salt and rinse aid levels and dispensation rates. Refering to your manual will offer some basic guidance, failing that post back here with model/e.nr no (around the door/on the door apeture) and further gems of knowledge will magically appear!

KeymasterYep, I’d be with Penguin on this one it will doubtless be the salt, detergent used and/or the quantity or quality of the rinse aid used. There is no fault, to my knowledge, with the actual appliance that can cause that.

If the switch panel was of the electronic type then the salt regeneration must be set for your local water conditions, see your instruction book for details.
Most models while holding in normal wash button, turn on machine power switch – display will then show hardness setting, if your water is hard press normal button until 6 is displayed turn off machine to accept setting machine will then correct white coating over the next 4-5 washes

The make and model is Bosch SGS 5302 GB
We have always used finish 3 in one tablets and didn’t have a problem until an engineer came to fix a starting problem. Since then the glasses keep being cloudy after each wash. I think it could be something to do with the hardness setting but we tried resetting it and it doesn’t seem to make a difference.July 30, 2004 at 11:32 pm #114639sparkey

Bosch SGS 5302 GB
This model is definataly an electronic control machine, reset the regeneration process by holding in the normal button whilst turning on the machine power switch, a number will then show in the display, release the normal button, you then need to set this number to 6 or 7 by pressing the normal button. when set to 6 or 7 switch off the power switch and the new setting will be stored.
When using three in one tablets it is imperitive that salt is still placed in the salt resevoir as the salt in the tablet is not of any use for the regeneration of the softener.
If the inside of your machine is white then it will take several washes to completely restore your softener.

Thanks Sparkey it now works as we have added salt. We thought we didn’t need to as it is in the three in one tablets. Everything is much shinier that ever before now so it seems we should have put salt in a long time ago

ParticipantGlad to hear it Oofus. There is an issue with these multi-use tablets.
1) All dishwashers have different programme timing, sequences and water usage. Someone tell me how a tablet can dissolve and dispense at a rate to suit ALL machines!2) Salt MUST be in the salt chamber to be of any use at all. This a separate water system, and not directly connected to the circulation system.
3) Rinse aid is specifically dispensed as part of the last rinse, in a metered dose to suit your waters characteristics. A big lump left on the bottom of the machine may (or may not!) dissolve sufficiently to cause the water to drop off your plates. It is worth bearing in mind that the dishwasher does NOT dry your plates. Rinse aid destroys water’s surface tension, causing it to fall off the crockery.
We would SERIOUSLY recommend that ALL dishwasher users revert to using powder, salt and rinse aid separately in their machines, as the manufacturers originally designed.
Personally, I think that the soap manufacturers have run a huge campaign to plug their tablets and it is little more than a con. If you think the above post through, it is obvious!

KeymasterRe: bosch dishwasher not rinsing properly
my bosch sgs 5302 isn’t drying. The user manual suggested that the rinse aid needed topping up. I did this but it’s still not drying. After a wash when I opened the door the inside was hot and steamy. now it’s cold and damp! Any suggestions? Heating element clogged with limescale? (element is not exposed so I can’t see it), thermostat? (where’s that?). Problem with having these things repaired is that it’s often cheaper to just buy a new one, which is a shame, because apart from this current problem the machine works perfectly and looks brand new (it’s about 7 years old). Thanks for any advice!

This could well be the normal problem of poor solder joints on the main PCB.
Engineer time to rectify this one moz, check Repairs@ for one near you 🙂
Dave.
