ParticipantHi Everyone, I have a bosch dishwasher S9J1B (SGV53E03GB/56) that’s about to be thrown out the back door! It’s 16 years old but it has always been reliable and happy. Sadly thing went bang a couple of weeks ago, lights stayed on and was able to fill up with water with door open! Since then everything checked and cleared of gunk and limescale, pcb board replaced and now lights off and behaves when door open BUT it keeps filling and draining again and again and yet to complete a cycle. I can reset it and then it drains but when you select a program again it plays up.
Have read loads of forums about an impellor jug but I cannot find it! I am the person that always buy something that is completely unique to the norm, don’t ask me how!
Can anyone help please?
Thank you for reading!

Moderator1 you have not got an impeller jug its too old for that
2 you say it fills and drains but is that fills a bit then drains or does it start the pump and the valve immediatly

ParticipantHi Dave, Many thanks for reply!
The dishwasher is filling for eternity, then stops …drains a tiny bit…tops up ….drains a tiny bit ….tops up etc. It seems like it is full to capacity and then realises it’s going to flood and then decides to empty a little, so on

Moderatorok on left hand side there is a float chamber and overflow switch
the red float is the overflow sw, that will be the one activating the pump
the other one a round sw with a micro sw attached is the water level sw.
check its all gum free and correctly connected

ParticipantHello Dave, have checked all is clean and correctly connected. Checked the round with a meter and all good. Turned the machine on and watched it fill up… the blue arm thing moved outwards but did not stop the incoming water and so did not follow on to next procedure.
The red float was originally full of lime scale and gunk, as was the matrix, but all cleaned and freely moving. After the blue arm not moving above we activated the red float.

Moderatorcheck the switch is operating with a meter
if ok check the wires back to the board
Dave

ParticipantHI Dave, thank you for all your help, really appreciate it! Sorry for the long delay each time but trying to be thorough in carrying out your instructions!
So, switch is operating with a meter and have checked all wires from it back to the board and they have continuity.
So the dishwasher fills and empties at beginning of cycle as described before and then when we open it to stop it and reset it, and then close it, the pump comes on to remove all the water in the machine and then beeps to say it is finished.

Moderatornormally what happens is
programme set
drain pump runs then stopsthen pump stops and unit fills
does the pump ever stop or just keep going ?

ParticipantHi Dave, yes programme set, hear drain pumping old water out and then stops; you then hear the machine filling and then eventually you hear the pump draining a little and then sound of water again and then pump a little, then water again etc. etc. This will continue until the machine is reset and then the pump kicks in and empties it and signals the end. There is no washing cycle from filling onwards if you know what I mean.
You end up hearing a rythm of pump and water, bit like an old train trying to speed up but there isn’t enough coal!
The water fills to capacity and so eventually the red float rises and pump chucks a bit out and then water fills the small gap again etc.

Moderatorso if you look at the side of the machine and watch the red float does this lift up and down ?
if yes have you checked the hose at the front that goes between the above unit and the sump ?
Dave

ParticipantYes, does lift up and down and yes have checked the hose at the front. Have also checked the sump previously. The one thing that was detected when it was all dismantled preivously is that the contacts were damp to the motor that actuates the spray arms. Could this be the culprit?
Really do appreciate your time and help Dave! If you ever need advice on furniture restoration let us know!

Moderatorright it all depends on when the float is lifting
if there is a blockage and the water cant get out of the chamber as fast as its coming in it lifts the float which starts and stops the pump
if it fills and as the machine gets too full, it lifts the float. pumps out a bit. then keeps filling and does it again
could the pressure switch got wet when you were cleaning it. ie is the micro sw wet inside and still got resistance across the open contacts ?

ParticipantGotcha, will investigate the switch! Thank you Dave

ParticipantSwitch did not get wet and have double checked this internally. Also good resistance from it, so all good.
