Hi all, hope 2014 is going well for everyone. We have a Bosch SGS56E 12GB/01 Dishwasher.I have just replaced the sump/circulation pump seal and all is well apart from a smell of bitumen coming from the machine when working presumably from the damping on the rear of the machine. This smell is worse at higher temperatures,we have not noticed it before the repair. The rinse cycle temperature is 58′ c.
    Any advice/reasons very gratefully received,thanks.

The bitumen sound damping is, for the most part at least, odourless and resistant to much higher temperatures than the machine is capable of attaining. Unlikely to be the source of any odour TBH. The most likely source is either the 13amp plug or wall socket burning due to a bad contact or the main PCB is arcing. Check it out before using the machine again is my advice. 😀

    Re: bosch dishwasher smell

Thanks for your help Martin. All cabling, socket etc seem fine.Have run the machine a lot (only when we are present!!!)and it appears to be perfect, apart from the smell which is still there but getting less.It is definitely a bitumen type of smell as opposed to a typical electrical odour.Whe (if) the weather improves I may take the machine outside and run it with panels off to see if I can locate the cause of the problem. All the best,Simon.
