    Re: bosch door handle

Usually the customer breaks the door handle then yanks at the emergency release lever and either breaks that too or it becomes dislodged. As its a electro magnetic interlock you could have (with the front panel detached) select a program and the interlock will disengage (with a click) sufficient to get a screwdriver in to poke the broken door striker out! Fiddly but effective. 🙂

    Re: bosch door handle

so you have to have machine powered up to open the door? so how about opening as a result of power failure? or in the showroom? so whats the point of the emergency lever?

    You mentioned it……”power failure”.

Possibly in the showroom (though that might put potential purchasers off). And on a new install when you want to get the fill hose and instruction leaflet out of the drum, there is that option (though I’d sooner plug it in first)

    HTH? 😀

    Re: bosch door handle

just found a post on youtube Australian bloke had same problem as me and went down the same path, but then found he could work the catch from about two inches up from the bottom of the handle in the gap between the handle and the door frame(on the front) using a butter knife.
    made a mental note wilf

Here’s another trick you can use. Thin wire poked down vertically between the door and front panel (between the door glass and the catch). Grab the other end of the wire as it emerges below the door and pull both ends to the right, unhooking the striker. Probably quicker and a lot less fiddly that that butter knife ❓

    Re: bosch door handle

The point of the emergency release tab is to release the locking pin in the interlock that stops the lock releasing, this may be required in the case of power failure or interlock failure (Basically any thing that stops the machine from releasing the interlock).
It is important to remember that the pull tab does not move the slide plate and therefore does not push the door pin back to allow the door to open in the event of a broken handle (you still have to pull the handle when using it to open the door).

My personal preference for opening doors with broken handles is to remove the lid and with the power unplugged slide my hand down behind the interlock and with the aid of a bent screwdriver (Dyson switch removal tool) push the hook back from behind.

    Re: bosch door handle

If the door handle is broken , the easiest way is to pull back on thehandle , shine a torch down to see the hook then insert a small flat bladed screwdriver and pop the hook open. 10 secs max.

    Re: bosch door handle

the interlock fitted has the latch covered and the gap between the tub and front is so small that you can only just get your hand in but without any wriggle room.

thanks for all the advice wilf

    Re: bosch door handle

just for ref I have now completed this job. door does release without power, locks as normal in use .the knife trick needs to be inserted 3 inches from bottom of handle.
handle is a sod to fit I used pattern from connect ( genuine o/s at bosch) DONT, pins too long plus very poor fit

    thanks again everyone wilf
