ParticipantBosch SGS43E02GB/45 complaint: – Won’t drain. (was full of mucky water in fact).
Syphoned off that water to access the pump and find the pump inlet blocked with food debris. Cleared debris, removed pump cover and was unable to turn the impellor, it was seized solid.
Closer inspection and I noticed the impellor was jammed solid in some unknown white substance that had set solid. Couldn’t even chip a bit of it away with a screwdriver in fact.:?
I asked customer and he told me that as the dishwasher wouldn’t drain he poured a packet of caustic soda into the base hoping it would “clear the drain?” Instead it just drifted to the lowest point of the sump and set solid! :rolls:
Releasing the bayonet pump fixing was also a challenge as the pump impellor and water seal housing had welded themselves to the sump moulding. So, brute force was the only option, the Irish spanner brought into play having first sought permission from my customer that if I break the sump then it’s down to him if he wants it fixed?..He agreed for me to go ahead and try.
A few choice German language swear words from my special vocabulary helped me at this point and the pump came off minus the impellor blades still stuck in the goo.
Removing the caustic soda and impellor blades however was only achieved by drilling into the soda with a Dremmel to break it up and clear it completely………the proverbial bu&&er of a job to be honest. Made worse by the fact that caustic soda on bare hands with a few cuts and grazes is very painful I found out all the while.
🙁

Martin I feel your pain, had some numpty of a customer do exactly the same.
Now two weeks after the event my hands are still dry and even more paper thin than normal.
I’m just glad I didn’t wipe my eyes. Or worse lick the substance thinking it was hardened salt. 😯
Not that I have a habbit of licking unknown blockages. 😀
I will now of course be asking all customers if they have tried to unblock machine with any chemicals.

Yeah, smart move Tim. 😉
Whenever I clear out block soap dispensers on w/m’s, whatever detergent these numpties use these days often reacts on my skin too. :rolls:
Perhaps I should use barrier cream before starting work or do like motor mechanics do these days and wear those industrial ‘johnnies’……:rotl:
….cue…..comments from others now I’ve said that!!!……. 😈

Those latex gloves are great for brush changes. Stops you getting all black. Try and get a good fit though- too small and they won’t go on properly. Too big and you lose sensitivity ..er, I mean you can’t get a grip.

Ahaaaa! So that`s what i came across a couple of years ago! In my case i did manage to eventually chip it all out using a hammer and a small screwdriver as a chisel 😆
