ParticipantHi all,
Hope you guys and gals can help me or offer some assistance. I have a Bosch dishwasher which is approx 7/8 years old and gets a lot of use, 2 or 3 times everyday. The fact it doesn’t work now it quite a major issue as I am in a very busy house.
Washer was working perfectly the day, next time we turned it on and shut the door it tripped the fuse board. We have run an extension lead from the garage, which is on its on ring, and it trips that aswell. You can turn the machine on and select a program but as soon as you shut the door it trips.
I’ve trawled thru the internet for clues and read all sorts from heater, motors, chaffed wires in doors and power suppressors going so thought I would take a look as I think I’m fairly handy and have fixed quite a few white goods in the past and am not scared of getting my hands dirty.
I had a good look round it but can’t see anything substantial like the motor sitting in water etc. there is quite a bit of corrosion on the motor housing which is to be expected. I have disconnected wires from the heater, it trips, then the wires from the motor one at a time. It has three wires and an earth. Out if the four wires there is a purple wire (far right) which when disconnected from the motor stops the washer from tripping the power.
Anyone have any ideas what the purple wire does? It seems to go into the main loom that goes into the door and up to the program selector panel.
Dodgy motor or program panel?
Bosch SGV57T03GB/02 is the model
Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

I’m going to appear a bit cheeky here, more so as I know little of Bosch dishwashers but… basics!
You shut the door, it trips.
What components get energised when you close the door?
Mains cable and filter, should always have power when plugged in.
Power button, switches live (usually) as soon as you press it.
Door lock and microswitch! That operates as you close the door, so a fair bet.
Drain pump, first thing most any dishwasher will do is clear the sump of standing water as soon as you apply power.
I am sure that Martin or others will likely be able to offer more possibilities but those are the things I’d be looking at as possible suspects.

Could well be the mains filter (suppressor)….?

If it is the suppressor, wouldn’t the power trip as soon as I turned on the mains to the washer?

I don’t think it’s that then. I can turn machine on, select a program etc. as soon as I shut the door it trips. If I unplug the purple wire in the pic when I shut the door the machine starts to run. Not sure what it is doing but it sounds like the waste is being pumped which it does for the first few seconds of a wash.

Main circulating pump f@@ked then, windings subjected to corrosion from leaking pump drive shaft….expensive fix. 🙁
