ParticipantHi, just moved into a flat with an electric hob, I believe it is a Ceramic Hob (Bosch PKE64.E/NKT61.C)
Never used them before so not entirely sure what features are built in.Problem is hob is cutting off on me mid-use. It was ok for a little while using just one frying pan. But lately I’ve had a number of pans on the go (for example, waiting for them to boil) and the hob will cut out. I hear a ‘beep’ and the displays for each plate have changed to ‘h’. I can’t use the hob again until it has cooled down and the ‘h’s have gone. It’s done this with 2 pans or 3 pans on the go and all plates cut out at the same time, all turning to ‘h’.
Do ceramic hobs have safety features built in?
Do they time out?
Do they respond to weight?
Do I need special pans?…Any help greatly appreciated!!

Hi
Possible lack of ventilation underneath the hob.

Thanks for the suggestion, how would I check the ventilation?
Update: Today had one pan on the go. Was ok for a little while then it started beeping and flashing ‘E’s on the control panel. In the manual this means something is pushing on the control pad or on the plates (like a hand or a pan overflow). Nothing had moved though. I was still waiting for the water to boil and was no where near the surface? Once I got the beeping to stop, I got it back on again but this only lasted a few minutes before it did the usual ‘h’ and cut out on me. However after a few minutes I managed to get another plate to turn on whilst the other was cooling down?
I’m genuinely stumped!! Can’t work out what the common factor with this issue is. Driving me crazy!?

Not sure about the ventilation theory TBH. Do please give us the FULL model number (ENr number) of the appliance (it’s no use to us just quoting from a multi appliance booklet no’s). It could be electronic board issues or bad connections so that all important number could well help greatly. 🙂

.
Modern hobs require ventilation to protect the boards from over heating and cutting out is a typical symptom of overheating. If it’s fitted without the correct distances it will cut out more often where there is also a built in oven also being used.
Gone are the days of regulators now its fully electronic.

Thank you, where can I find an ENR number? I have access to the hob surface and the only things written on it are ‘BOSCH’ and ‘CERAN SCHOTT 62717001’?
Those numbers I initially posted just came from the manual which had different types of hobs and codes next to them.September 1, 2016 at 5:32 pm #440602Martin

That all important number we seek is on a rating plate underneath the appliance. So if it is under a built in oven then only by pulling that oven out can you access that underside. Meanwhile we can only speculate what the actual problem is. I personally rule out ventilation. More likely a control board issue or such like.
But, at some point you will need to start taking the thing apart and to do that then you will be able to see what model ( out of a potential 50 appliances options) it is.

Also check the bottom of pans you are using. Make sure they are flat and not curving slightly
Had this problem with a customer once and put a level across bottom of pan to check, she got a couple new pans and no more problems

Thank you both for the advice. Not gonna be able to shift the oven on my own, will have to wait until I can get some muscle round!!
Will check my pans too and try that tip. -
