Hi,
Our new house has an old Bosch fitted fan oven (HBN 202 S GB) which has an intermittent problem with the fan oven setting (the grill always works).
Sometimes the fan oven fails to heat up; the thermostat light on the front is on (suggesting the heating element has power), and inside the oven the fan is turning and the interior light is on – but just no heat is being generated.
I have taken the oven apart and found what seems to be the problem: the “cooking method selector” switch (ie. the switch to select off/grill/fan oven) has a problem. The switch pin for the oven has burnt out, such that it no longer fits well in the (now larger) hole – and so when it comes loose the oven fails to work because the metal contacts in the switch aren’t in contact.
My questions is what could cause the switch to burn out? Is it a sign that something else is wrong in the oven (and if so, any idea what to look at?)?
I’m happy changing the switch myself (I have experience with electrics of this sort), but without a wiring diagram/troubleshooting guide I wouldn’t know where else to look..
TIA,
Anthony
