ParticipantWhen I select any of the three prograsmmes, half way through the clock changes to an even longer total running time than that originally selected. If it does reach one minute it is still washing, instead of drying, and again resets itself to a longer time, in the past it has eventually stopped although at the time of typing this time it has gone from one minute on three occassins. Any ideas please. Would a failed heater have these symptoms because we have had problems with heaters in the recent past?

VAT inspector eh? 😉
Does your machine heat the water at any stage?
Are you regularly using salt?
Does it work OK on the ‘non-auto- programmes?
Have you tried using a dishwasher cleaner?
What is the full E.Nr of the machine (model no)?February 15, 2007 at 7:33 pm #204410vatinspector
ParticipantHi Martin,
Thank you very much for your reply, I am a very nice VAT inspector!
The interior was faintly warm when I opened the door, but that may have been the drying cycle rather than the water being heated.
I have never used salt becuase the instructions recommend using 3 in 1 tablets, so that is what I have used!
It doesn’t work on any programme, we ran it with dishwasher cleaner on a non auto cycle and it did just the same thing, got to 1 minute and then went to 16, got to 1 and back again, and so on. In the end we switched it off! It was still washing even on 1 minute when it should have been drying by then.
The number is SGS45E08GB/56

Either the heater has gone open circuit or more likely the pipe between the side chamber and the sump or the level chamber is blocked so that it runs without enough water in -level switch is made early because of the blockage and without enough water it won’t heat properly
hope this helpsFebruary 15, 2007 at 8:44 pm #204412vatinspector
ParticipantThanks urbantiger, any idea how I check the pipe for blockages? It may be the heater, but that was replaced 10 months ago under warranty, I guess that means they should replace it for free if it has gone again!

Under the tub, front left corner, there is a ribbed hose which chokes up and causes the machine to under-fill. Outer door off, kick panel off, lower cover plate off and all will be revealed.
Power off, of course.

Please do not take the door off!!!!!
Instead buy a set of these from Betterware : –
Take the filters out of the tub and use the smaller of the 3 brushes (from the left) to clear the inlet pipe situated in the 7 o’clock position! 😉Once the gunge is cleared operate the machine with a dishwasher cleaner and always keep that salt container topped up! 8)
