ParticipantToday the washing came out very wet. On selecting spin cycle I found the drum not turning – even on a rinse cycle there is no life in the drum? The lights are all working and the draining, filling etc. seem to work fine.
Could this be the brushes? Would this just stop all modes of the drum turning (with no noise)?
The machine is almost 5 years old and I haven’t had them replaced. How complicated is fitting new brushes if this is the cause?
Any comments/suggestions welcomed.

If you cannot hear the motor “whirring” on the wash part of the cycle, the brushes are prime suspects.
if the motor DOES whirrand you can spin the drum easily by hand when the machine’s empty, the belt (off or snapped) is likely the culprit.
Turn machine off, WITHDRAW PLUG FROM WALL. pull machine forward and tilt back to rest against wall….DON’T lay it down!hands and knees with a torch and find the motor. brushes are usually locatedat opposite end to belt and are 180 degrees apart (IE- opposite each other.)
usually in a plastic carrier, held to the motor with screws and a wire plugged into each..some designs are held compressed (they’re spring-loaded) and need to be unclipped . straightforward procedure, often easier to take the motor off, change brushes and refit motor..As I’m not familiar with your specific washer, I’d add that some machines have the motor at the top…..usually the lid of the cabinet is held by a hook arrangement and 2 screws (back or sides) remove screws, slide back and lift off.
brushes from the spares link on this site…..super fast delivery and top quality.
my last order was 3pm and delivered 11am the next day! 😀

Parts arrived day after ordering, got fitted (yes access is awkward…but I’m only an amateur…), and hey presto! one working washing machine! 😀
Thanks for the advice.

Hi all,
I read this topic on Tuesday, and my machines symptoms were identical.
I immediately ordered a set of Brushes off here and some other bits for another job, which have arrived safely packaged today.
My problem is now also solved and the washer is well on its way to completing its first load.
I addition to the advice given above i’d like to add, that this machine is heavy and not too easy to balance against the wall on your own, also the motor is quite heavy to lower on one hand from under the machine.
I also removed the back belt inspection cover, a torx screwdriver or bit is required here and you need to remove the belt as will make the motor removal easier, the belt its a fine grooved belt with fixed tensioning.
There are only two 6mm (10mm socket) course machine screws to remove to free the motor along with a ty wrap which holds a water shield over the wiring connector. The motor was a bit reluctant to slide forward but a quick tap with a screwdriver and hammer had it sliding forward.
Fitting the new brushes is simple enough, i used some long nosed pliers and a screwdriver to cope with the brass tabs that hold the connectors in place, care needs to be taken as these i don’t think these will cope with rough handling.
I also used some cotton buds with some electrical contact cleaner to clean off the carbon residue from around the brush pocket and also off the commutator.
i had about 5mm and 6mm on each old brush with the end of the copper braded cable just starting to show through on one.
refitting is a reversal off the above process however the motor is a bit tricky to line up the 4 spigots before sliding back into place and re-fitting the two 6mm screws
This Bosch washing machine has been the best machine we’ve had, it gets used everyday we are at home and this is the first fault we have had in over 5 and 1/2 years of ownership
I’d just like to say that this is a great site, and the valued contributions from Pro’s and amateurs like me have just saved me a fortune.
Thanks
Andy
