ParticipantHi, I have a Bosch Exxcel 1400 express WFX2868 GB/20 which makes loud squeaking and thumping noises when it goes into the spin cycle. It has been making the noise for quite a while, and I recently started investigating why. I have taken the belt off and the bearings seem fine. The noise seems to be coming from the left suspension spring. When I took parts off to get to the source of the noise, the noise went away. I reassembled the unit and the noise was greatly diminished during use but has gotten louder again. When we first started hearing the noise I leveled the unit, but it made no difference. could it be that one of the shocks is worn out, or is there a adjustment to something internally which may need to be made? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi: Is it actually the upper sring your talking about or 1 of the bottom dampers ?

It sounds like the top spring on the water/soap dispenser side. The spring looks fine, but I have been able to make it squeak by moving the drum unit around. Do the bottom shocks wear out?

Hi: Yes the bottom shocks can wear out just the same as they can on a car, try getting close to the bottom damper & listening while someone pushes down on the drum. Hopefully that way you can eliminate 1 of the 2 items rather than spend money buying both, also look carefully at the bottom damper for any signs of leakage.
Also take a look at the Nylon spring guides, & see if the guide on that side is Worn, Split or not sitting properly in it’s recess. Only seen that happen once but it’s worth checking, the cheapest parts to replace are the guides then the springs & the most expensive being the dampers.April 25, 2013 at 8:28 pm #393959Cpt Desl

Thinks so much for the info, I will carry out these checks. Would the nylon spring guides be on the tub or the top bar/Traverse which it hangs from?

They’re on the top bar that the springs hang from. If you need any parts for the machine, they are available from the UKWG shop via the store link.

Hi there, I’ve been having very similar problem with my washer as CPt desi. The washer will complete the cycle but makes some loud thumping noises. I have clean out the filter whilst I was looking around at the dampers and springs. From what I could see there wasn’t any visible damage to either of them. So I’m abit stumped as to what to do next and don’t want to change the wrong part. Thanks in advance
