ParticipantOur Bosch Exxcel 1400 washing machine has suddenly stopped working.
When we start it, the normal sound of water filling happens but then it just sits there. The timer counts down but nothing happens.
I wondered if the drain pump needed clearing out in case the pump impeller can’t rotate but cannot get the pump cover off. It turns about 30 degrees and then stops and I can’t pull it out. I have removed it before but can’t remember how far it needs to turn.
Any help gratefully received.
thanks
Derrick

Does the water heat up to temperature.?
If not, it’s probably the heater element

No, it doesn’t seem to be heating. Is it something I can replace myself?
Many thanks for your help.

Sorry – another point. Is it normal that if the element breaks that the machine just sits there and doesn’t just run the cycle ‘cold’?
thanks again

Try it on a few different wash settings… See if it’s any different

No, just takes in a bit of water and then sits doing nothing.

Another update!
On another setting it has done something but it’s very odd. It seems to running through the cycle but water is just coming in and pumping out. Doesn’t seem to be any heat and the drum hasn’t moved.
Is it time for a new machine???

It could also be the carbon brushes in the motor.. These are attached to either side of the motor, which is, if my memory serves me right, accessible from underneath the machine …
PS. Never work on machine with power on!

Odd again! Started with normal noise of pumping out and showed 11 minutes on the timer. Then after a minute or so the timer dropped to 1 minute.
No spinning happened at all.
Any thoughts?

Stop messing and just replace the motor carbon brushes!…..that is your problem all the while!

Sorry Martin but that doesn’t appear to be the solution either.
I’ve been having the same problems with mine and have replaced the brushes, to no avail – the problems persist.
I’m beginning to suspect it might be something in the control electrics – perhaps not recognizing the signal from the door switch (or similar) since the fault is either intermittent or nothing happens at all, and also the lock is no longer engaging.

In your case the door must first lock before it will operate therefore I reason that the door interlock is at fault.
