ParticipantGreetings all…have just suffered apparently irreparable failure of our our 5 year old Bosch Classixx condensing tumble drier (it steams voluminously and leaks instead of filling up the container) Our Engineer has tried checking the filter and drain tube, and can’t seem to offer any other solution than “might as well get a new one”.
After a bit of research, it seems that the mid & high range Bosch’s are well thought of, and a Vented version is preferable. So I’m minded to go for the WTV74306 Logixx, and with the kid’s washing piling up I can’t delay for much longer. The unit will sit under a worktop adjacent to our Bosch washing machine, backing onto an outside cavity wall (made of durox blocks and clad with feather-edge boarding).
Now the thing is, the only way I can get the required 100mm diameter vent pipe in place is to drill straight through this wall – but the installation guide available from the Bosch website seems to indicate that the vent outlet of the machine comes out of it’s side, not it’s rear. I just don’t have the space to accomodate an elbow, as the machine can only go in this one particular location, i.e. flush next to the washing machine. Is anyone out there familar with this machine, who can tell me whether the side outlet is merely an optional position? Or should I look for a different machine where the vent pipe can come straight out the back and through the wall…or just buy another Condenser version…. ❓

Hi
Great choice  the WTV74306 does vent from the rear as well as the left side and the vent hose is supplied. I found the spec on the Bosch website the detail is about two thirds down the spec list left column http://www.boschappliances.co.uk/produc … aspx?id=11 .

DOH!!!
Would you believe, I was sitting here looking at that before I posted and never noticed it. Thanks very much…now I just have to hire the core drill, lock away the kids, and I suppose, buy a suitable external terminal that won’t let in wind and small beasties.
I presume the hose supplied is 3 or 4 foot long and flexible (to allow for the machine to be pulled in and out) and the end just fits snugly within the short rigid pipe that one has to insert through the wall?
Apologies, but I’ve not had any experience of such matters…can anyone confirm how it’s done?

I suppose the condenser has been checked on the old dryer……

Yeah, well, unfortunately I was not at home both times when this Engineer came out, but I ASSUME he checked the Condenser as thoroughly as he should. After all, if the thing isn’t condensing into it’s proper place – i.e. not filling the removable receptacle – then that’s a pretty obvious part to investigate. He’s a well established chap connected with a local shop, and was recommended to me by a couple of people whom I trust. Only charged £35…
But I did have another look at it yesterday myself and found rather a lot of fluff in the door filter – which I though he would have / should have cleaned out on his first visit…anyway, it’s all out now.
So, I asked the Mrs to test again with another wet load and once again we got plenty of steam leaking out and condensing onto the adjacent cupboard door. Much of this seemed to be emanating from the right hand side of the door seal, and the rest from the grille lower down. Checked the seal and it looked undamaged and properly seated. Can I check / replace the condenser myself, or is it a pro. job?By the way, the appliances’ number is: WTL 6102 GB/02 FD8210 201065

If the door seal looks intact, it probably is. Fault is most likely the door panels having warped with age and heat. P/no 216348 is a kit containing both panels and the door striker; around £46. An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for ordering etc.

Condenser is behind the front lower panel, lower left side. It is something you should remove and wash through (all 4 ways) at least once a month with normal use. Pay special attention to the fine comb passage, (side to side ways from the front). Best way I find is to fill a bowl of water, and put the condenser side on in the water and lift up and push down, fairly rapidly and from both sides. You should see lots of little fluff lumps and dust in the water. Repeat with fresh water when the current stuff has some fluff in it, and keep repeating with fresh water until the water stays clean.
The fact you say it steams up suggests a blocked condenser.

Gentlemen, I salute you!
After taking all the advice on board – and particularly yours, Mr Kentish – I tightened up the door hinges and had a real good go at clearing out that Condensor. The good lady Wife had assured me she regularly washed it through, but doing the old side-to-side shake four times in a bowlfull of hot water really got loads of crud out of the “crinkly bits” (oo-err, mrs! 😯 ) And now…no steam, it’s working perfectly again! That technique is NOT mentioned in the Bosch Handbook!
So grateful thanks – you’ve saved me the £300 cost of a new machine!
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀And I don’t think I’ll be using that Engineer again. First Call Whitegoods!
