bosch exxcel express dishwasher doesn’t drain

my dishwasher bosch SGS56E12GB won’t drain, but only every second or third time? I have checked for blockages and found none. The machine fills ok and the pump seems to run(i have checked this by removing the filters and pressing the override microswitch and can see the impellor spinning). I thought a few times that it was not emptying because the check valve near the pump was stuck shut but i have removed that and cleaned and it still no good. Any help/tips gratefully received.

If the pump runs and there’s no blockage then there’s no reason it shouldn’t drain.

Make sure after checking and cleaning the pump impellor and non-return valve that you screw the pump cover back in place otherwise it won’t drain…..! (a common mistake :D)

Yes I have done that, ran a cycle this morning ans it worked fine. I will try a long cycle tonight and see what happens. does anyone know if their is a way if checking how well the pump is working? It seems like sometimes the pump doesn’t have enough force to pump the water out. Thanks for reply.

The pump is a small, low powered permanent magnet motor that is subject to stress and wear like all mechanical devices. Good usually for up to 5 years service at best before needing replacing. Reliant on a clear, short and unrestricted outflow from its own drain hose. Preferably draining out into an open standpipe. If it is coupled to a shared waste outlet, with the sink waste for example, that needs regular inspection as they are prone to clogging especially from fat build-up.

Also small fragments of broken glass or crockery can remain undetected within the pump chamber itself. So carefully inspection with the pump chamber fully drained of all water to be certain it is clear is essential.
