Our Bosch exxcel sms50e02gb has recently started showing the salt light, even though there is plenty of salt in there. Sloshing about in the salt tank sometimes puts the light off but it will come on again later. The operation of the dishwasher seems to be otherwise unaffected. I’ve heard that the indicator is driven by some sort of float, which might explain why it can go off if I stir the salt tank. Is there an easy fix?

    Thanks.

Challenging for the uninitiated I would say. THIS is what it looks like. Fits on the outside of the salt container.

If it’s too challenging for you I would recommend contacting a local independent repairer. One can be found using the engineer search facility.

Thanks for that Martin. I’m an aircraft engineer so I’m fairly competent and have repaired quite a few washing machines over the years (but not a dishwasher). Is the sensor unit you linked to accessible externally from the side panel? Does it just control the indication or does it control other functions. We’d probably live with the light on permanently if the machine ran fine otherwise.

Accessible from the front having removed the kick panel below the door.
