Hi. We’re thinking of buying one of the subject machines, mostly because of the A++ energy rating and a discount price from the co-op. But we’re a bit nervous about the claim that it only uses 6 litres of water per wash. Can it do a thorough job with so little water? Also we read that these machines retain 3 litres of water from each wash for use on the next wash, so although they only fill with 6 litres, they use 9 litres (good trick). But is there a danger that water stored in the machine for longish period (like when we’re away for summer holidays) will turn a bit manky?

Would appreciate any advice or views, especially from anyone who either owns one or knows these machines well.

    Thanks

    Re: Bosch Exxcel SMS65E22GB Query

The 3 litres of water retained for the next wash refers to the water softener backwash process. The water softener always backwashes towards the end of every cycle in preparation for the next wash therefore it is not in fact retained other than within the ion exchanger. And without water in both the ion exchanger and the salt reservoir it would indeed go somewhat “manky” in the long term. 😉

In the trade we always recommend a dishwasher be used at least once a month to prevent stagnation of the saline systems within anyway! 🙂

    Re: Bosch Exxcel SMS65E22GB Query

    Hello,

I’ve recently bought this exact model of dishwasher and now been using it for a week. I was curious about the stored water thing as well, and the manual describes it as follows:

Aqua sensor, depending on model (I assume ours has it)

The Aqua sensor is an optical measuring device (light barrier) which measures the turbidity [whatever that is] of the rinsing water. The Aqua sensor is used acccording to the programme. If the Aqua sensor is active, “clean” rinsing water can be transferred to the next rinse bath and water consumption can be reduced by 3-6 litres. If the turbidity is greater, the water is drained and is replaced with fresh water.

Aside from that, it produces clean, dry dishes. Water sometimes collects in the bottom of cups and so on, but only a bit. It’s as good as the AEG which it replaced, and that seemed to be a hard act to follow. It’s pretty quiet, probably a little quieter than the AEG was, and it’s certainly possible to have a conversation when standing next to it, without raising your voice. Only current (and pretty minor) niggle is that we haven’t yet figured out how to load the top rack well. Things don’t seem to fit in as well as the old one, but I expect we’ll have figured that out in another week or two. I’m very pleased with it.

There’s a £ 50 off promotion on the Bosch UK website as well.

Post back if that link doesn’t work and I’ll check it.

Martin and BBD: Thank you both very much for that useful advice, and for posting it so quickly. Your posts were reassuring, so we went ahead and ordered an SMS65E22GB. Slowly getting to grips with the programmes etc. So far we’re quite impressed with the machine, though much less impressed with the instructions !

Apologies for not posting this earlier, but have been having PC problems in addition to appliance ones . . .

    Thanks again
