ParticipantI have a Bosch Exxcel SP601 / 51 Tumble Dryer which has stopped heating, it starts & runs fine but just doesn’t get warm at any setting. Before I start diving inside, is there anywhere I should look for the problem.

The numbers I copied from the inside of the door areSP601/51 and
51 230220I think there were more numbers but I didn’t copy them. If you need them I will have to get them latter

Indeed so, god knows where you got the other numbers from? 😉
Anyway, possibly the problem is the thermal trip has gone (by the heating element) It may just need the little red button pushing in to reset it maybe?
If you have ever been guilty of turning the machine off before its automatically completed its cycle?…Then that’s your problem for sure!

Success – I found the reset button last night as you suggested & pressed it back in and everything now is back to normal.
Thanks very muchJanuary 13, 2007 at 3:23 pm #197025JohnWB

Is it possable to get a new reset switch (& how much) as I have had to reset it about once a week. I have made sure that the filter & pipework are clean so I guess it is probably the switch on the way out

Greg, thanks for the reply. Since then i have been very careful not to open the door at all until the cycle has definatly finished & it has just happened again. I guess this means the switch is faulty unless you can suggest anything else, if not what is the price of a new switch please.

Hi
Ok just to give you more info, the main resons that these trip the safety stat are as follows.
1/ Overloading ie when loaded there isnt a hand width from top of clothes to top of drum
2/ Stopping cycle before the final 10 minutes of cool down (Elimated)
3/ Vent hose kinked, extended or blocked
4/ Vent hose not extracted and machine pushed back against wall or under unit
5/ Fluff filter at the front blocked and not regularly cleaned
6/ In efficient fan operation
7/ Faulty thermostat/s inc safety thermostatHope that helps

Thanks gegsy, in answer to your points
1- Tumbler never filled up, usualy only about half full
3 – The vent hose is OK ( only about 18 inches to the outside )
4 – See above
5 – Fluff filter cleaned before every cycle
6 – The fan seens OK & speed hasn’t changed since before this started
7 – Probably the safety stat as the tumbler does not seem any hotter from the outside of the clothes drying any quickerJanuary 19, 2007 at 1:35 pm #197030gegsy

Hi
It certainly does look like a faulty safety thermostat.
We have guided the best we can, the ball as they say is in your court 😀
