Hi My Bosch washer dryer isn’t heating in dryer mode and suspect not in wash mode either.
When I had the top off I saw that the fan motor was working but also noticed a small component (one of 3) screwed into the top of the air duct with 2 screws which had fine black carbon dust on it. This component has what looks like a tiny push button/microswitch in the centre. would this be the stat?
I’m assuming the Element is fitted to the front of the drum casing but as the element is nearly £70 I might change the stat first if it’s easy to get to as it is only £15.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Tony.

You will find it very difficult to fault find by merely looking at components. You need the heater & stats tested with an appropriate electrical tester.
You will probably find it is heating on the wash but its quite a ‘human’ assumption to make that when the dryer isn’t heating your attention is drawn to the wash side of things as well.

Best to call an appliance engineer…

Hi thanks for the info. Yes it is heating on the wash so I guess that would indicate the element is ok.
Of course I guess it could be that the dryer heats up the laundry and then cools it before at the end of the cycle, in which case I’m just not setting the cycle for long enough. In which case I’ll feel really STUPID !!

Perhaps you didn’t realise there are TWO heaters? One heats the wash, the other totally seperate heater, heats the dryer.

    Hello Abelman,

How long have you had the item? Did you buy it from new? Depending on the answers to those questions, it may be the case that you don’t have to worry about fixing it yourself!

In English law, you have 6 years in which to bring a claim for a breach of contract, a very common consumer misconception is that they only have rights as long as there is a ‘cooling-off’ or guarantee/warranty period. Truth is, (no retailer wants you to know this), that regardless of their policy, and regardless of the length of a warranty, goods should legally be expected to last ‘a reasonable time’ and that can vary dramatically depending on the type of goods they are, for what purpose they were bought, the price and any other relevant factors.

Get back to me with the answer to the questions, and we can see if you should expect a free remedy to this issue!

    Regards,

    ConsumerChamp.

Yes there is that in the SoGA but, there are limits on how it can be used and what you are proposing will not work as it would be argued that the failure is due to wear and tear, which would be correct.

There is no guarantee of durability in the SoGA at all other than what is considered to be “reasonable” and any remedy may take into account both depreciation and rescission.

It is also the case that the owner must prove that the goods did not conform to contract from point of sale after six months. If there is no evidence of this, there’s no case for the retailer or manufacturer to answer.

It is also the case that the SoGA does not state that goods have to be fault free for any period at all.

It is also unreasonable to expect the problem, caused through wear and tear, to be repair for free.

So, retailers and manufacturers are aware of the legislation and, they’re not stupid.

But if you like, take a test case to court but you’re arguing over a very small amount once you consider the depreciation and rescission, likely even in the best case, less than £50-100.

Seems an odd post from ConsumerChamp just weighing in on a thread that has fuff all to do with consumers rights. Spam post methinks?
