ParticipantHi there
My dishwasher recently stopped washing the top shelf items, I have trawled through many threads and now am not sure which route to take to resolve them problem.
Could you advise how the dishwash cycle runs, do both spray arms wash continuously throughout the cycle or is the bottom sprayed for a period then the top?, the reason I ask this is that only today have I noticed that the wash cycle has dropped from 134 minutes to just 84 minutes so would this indicate a circuit fault which causes the cycle to be only partially completed and doesn’t do the top shelf? and if it is can it be repaired by me? and if not me is it worth repairing anyway?.
The washer drains and has good water flow, is it possible that something is stuck in the pump or the unit that feeds water to the upper arm?, there is no blockage either in the pipe up to the arm or the arm itself. All advice gratefully received
Thanks

The diverter valve on the water heater unit (Part No 488856) has failed and needs replacing. I would suggest contacting a local engineer to replace it for you as it involves a great deal of surgery to replace. Certainly NOT a DIY job….. 😐

Thanks Martin
You seem very certain, can you tell me what leads you to this conclusion?
Many thanks

It may be as a result of 40+ years experience. 😉

I appreciate that Iadom but I just wanted a bit of background as to why it is what it is rather than something else. If I’m going to shell out £100 on an item and then get someone in to fit it I personally don’t have the money to make a mistake, that’s why Im trying to repair it and not buy a new one!. Martin, Im not doubting you but like most blokes I like to pretend I understand what the problem is 😉

No problem, I fully understand your concern so let me explain my diagnosis….A water diverter is fitted to your machine, it switches the flow of water from the top to the bottom spray arms alternately. As your machine washes, every 60 seconds the diverter switches the top spray off and the bottom spray and and vice versa throughout the entire wash and rinse cycle. What fails is the motorised gearbox device that controls the diverter valve. The ONLY solution is to replace the Heater Unit (which incorporates the diverter unit within) and that involves a good deal of surgery and thus expert intervention to replace it.
I hope that puts your mind at rest? 😀

Thanks Martin, having read dozens of previous threads I even understood what you’ve said 🙂
