ParticipantBosch frost free FF – the freezer ices up to the extent that water freezes down the wall behind baskets and then collects and freezes in the base. I have to regularly defrost every month or so, and when the internal back panel is removed, the cooling grid is heavily iced at the bottom. If left, the air flow to fridge becomes blocked and fridge stops cooling. Had the ecu replaced under warranty a year ago, but didn’t cure problem (second engineer found ice, defrosted and cleaned drain tube and replaced original ecu – it ran ok for a few months before icing again). Don’t know where to go from here. The drain tube is clear, but it seems that water will not escape down this. However, on reading other posts, would this unit have a heating element to defrost, and could this or control unit have failed?.I don’t have model number to hand but unit is 3 years old and a KG prefix I think. Any advise appreciated. ❓

As with most frost free, they are a sophisticated beast.
Just a long shot…… Is the freezer and fridge doors sealing ALL the way round, and the fans in the fridge and freezer turning ok??
Anything else other than the above I would recommend engineer from link below.Greg

The door seals are fine & all fans are working when doors are closed – I assume that frost would form near the door if there was a problem? Currently it ices up the element first and then it works it’s way forward, trickling down the back panel.

Problem solved by wrapping copper wire around heating element and poking it down drain hole. It seems this was freezing over and preventing drain water from escaping, whereas now it is kept clear when the heating element comes on.
