ParticipantThe Bosch SGS43A52GB/35 dishwasher has worked flawlessly for over 8 years. Recently the normal programme which used to take about 90 minutes took over three hours to complete and left dirty dishes on several washes. Eventually I had to reset it as it took too long.
Now it fills and empties on starting and progresses no further – resetting forces it to drain constantly. Opening the door stops machine. This happens on any programme.I have removed top and sides but there is no evidence of a leak as the floor of machine is dry. The polystyrene float is dry and down.
I suspect a faulty controller – any help please?

your extended programme sound like it might not be heating
common problem with this machine is gunge in the float section and in the hose leading into the sump
look at the laft hand side of the dishwasher you will see a plastic unit with a red float inside and a hose coming out the front that connect with the sump. if this is gunged up it does not work properly and may cause all the symptoms you mention

Thanks Dave
I’ve attached a photo of the left hand side. To the left of the red float there appears to be yellow deposits. Is this the softener or gunge?
I suppose to remove this unit to clean, the matrix will have to be detached.
The machine was heating on the lengthy programme

it does not look too gunged up neither does the pipe
fill machine with side off and see what happen
if the red float keeps coming up and stopping water and starts pump then strip and clean
matrix just clips off but beware its got some water in it and can go over electrics unless you take care
to get float section out. look at the leg next to the red rod. there is a plastic barb which needs to be removed to withdraw it after first removing pipe bottom left H side of picture

Took the side covers off. At switch on the dishwasher began to empty. After a few seconds the water input opened and started to fill the machine via the air break. But the pressure switch never operated as it kept emptying.
I checked the red float (presumably part of the flood protection system) but it didn’t move and didn’t actuate the microswitch.
Pressing reset stopped the inflow of water but it kept on draining.
I then did a diagnostic reset (holding normal and eco buttons while switching on). It then ran through a normal cycle finishing in just over 90mins. I ran it through the quick programme and it finished OK in 25mins.
So it looks as if it could be an intermittent problem (perhaps a faulty cable in the bottom of the door) or perhaps the controller has a problem which the reset cleared or something else.
For the moment it looks OK so thanks for your help
