ParticipantHi Folks,
I have a four year old slimline Bosch dishwasher which has stopped working. I was hoping that you could check my thinking before I call out a service engineer.
E-Nr: SPS40E32GB/01
FD9610
Z-Nr 02998The machine stopped halfway through a cycle with a flashing “check water” red light.
I opened the door and found the contents mostly washed but with some very white water at the bottom. Not a lot: maybe a mugs worth.
I couldn’t seem to reset the machine with the on/off button or by holding the start button for 3 seconds.
(After emptying the machine) I switched off the power at the plug. While the power was out I have removed and washed all the spray arms, washed the filter at the bottom and cannot see/feel anything blocking the impeller at the bottom (But I think there is still one more piece of plastic I know how to move to double check that)
Switching the power back on the “rinse aid” light flashes on for a fraction of a second (it was running low) and then instantly the check water light starts flashing again. There is some quiet noise from inside the machine as if it is trying to do something, but that stops after approximately half a minute.
I have not yet checked the hoses (or filters in the connectors) as they are not easy to get to. As far as I can tell I still have good water pressure and the drain is not blocked. Those problems seem to be associated with a solid (non flashing) ‘check water’ light.
I am going to leave it unplugged overnight and see if that makes any difference.
1) Is there anything else I really should do or check before calling out an engineer?
2) Is there any point in me hunting for my own local engineer rather than asking Bosch to supply one through their website?
3) I am in a Covid Tier 3 region in England (East London)- is that going to cause any problems? We are not in a high risk group and we can probably have the engineer visit us without being in the same room at the same time.
4) At what point do you say ‘This machine is uneconomical to fix’. I could just order a new one if a major part has failed.PS This is not a terribly expensive machine so has no digital display. I don’t have an error code for you other than ‘flashing check water light’.
Thanks for any advice you might be able to give us.
