ParticipantMy undercounter Bosch Freezer (GUL12444GB/01) runs continuously. The temperature is down to -21 deg. C. I think that the fault is with the thermostat but I am unable to find a way to remove it. What I’m looking for, on this forum, is help with removing and fitting a new thermostat. Do I have to remove all the insulation or can I just remove the metal angle panel which holds the controls. It appears that I will have to drill out the two rivets on the top.
Any guidance would be much appreciated. Many thanks

ParticipantGood evening Dave
Thank you for your response.
I’m sure I tried that initially but will try again. I need to put the door back on and replace the control panel so I will do it later this evening and try again.
Let you know tomorrow.
Thank you

ParticipantGood morning Dave
I’ve replaced all the bits and with an empty freezer I get the following results:
Time Date Temp.Running?
20:00 29/8 +22.5 Yes
03:30 30/8 -20.2 No
08:00 30/8 -18.2 No
09:35 30/8 ?? Yes just started
10:15 30/8 -20.4 YesThe thermostat is set on 1 normally it is between 3 and 4.
It would appear that the thermostat will switch on and off. Could it still be faulty or is there something more serious?
Thank you in advance

Moderatorcant be more serious otherwise it would not get down to those temp
if it was only getting to -10 then you would have problems
in fact those temps above and the fact it is turning on and off, Is there really a problem ?

ParticipantHi Dave
The freezer is still running at 11:55 this morning, the temperature is -23.6 deg. C. When I open the door there is a whishing sound for a second or so.Sounds like air or gas escaping!Best wishes

Moderatorwell anything escaping cant be anything to do with the refrigeration as it would have stopped freezing by now
as long as its going on and off then its probably ok. you just might have got to it during an on phase. to know whats going on you would have to check it every 15 mins or so over a few hours

ParticipantHi Dave
The thermostat was originally set between 3 and 4 before it started running all the time.It ran continuosly for about six weeks so we emptied it and left it switched off while we went away for a week. Do you think leaving it off would make a difference?
At 13:21 it switched off and the temperature was – 23.3 it came back on at 13:45 and the temperature was -16.6. It’s still running with temperature of -23.1
It is currently in the conservatory (somewhere to work on it) It is a little warm in there! Could the seals be a problem since the temperature went up 6.7 degrees in 24 minutes?Doug

Moderatorturning it off would not have made any difference it sounds like the stat is out of calibration. so the high setting is lower than the unit can attain
if the operating temp is ok set at 1 and the temp is ok then it should work with no problems

ParticipantHi Dave
Thank you.
What should the working temperature be?
If the thermostat continues to go further out of calibration, how do I fit a new one?Doug
August 30, 2020 at 4:35 pm #471598electrofix
Moderatoranything below -18 should be ok
it looks like an old fashioned hydraulic stat which has a capillary tube. one you access the stat some of them have a tube you push the tube down others have a duct where the tube goes and it bolts on to the evaporator
don’t know with this model and the part listings and diagrams don’t give you any ideaDave
