ParticipantHi, I have a Bosch frost free freezer, GSU3401GB/52, about 3 years old.
The compressor has been iffy for a while, making repeated attempts to start and tripping out on a PTC or thermostat. It sounds like a thermostat from the metallic click. Sometimes you’d hear the compressor juddering and turning for 5 seconds or so, other times it sounded like it had stalled. Now it won’t go. SWMBO has been ringing around and has been told they’re difficult/impossible to repair, parts unobtainable, grossly expensive, etc.. It looks like a bog-standard compressor to me, I can’t see the problem. I’m sure it’s not the electronics.
Is this true, or doesn’t anyone want to do the job before Xmas?

Could be electronics 😕 Comps are pretty good on these IMHO 😀

I didn’t think so, ‘cos there’s just a 240V supply to the compressor from the electronics at the top. The 240V remains live + the compressor don’t go = duff compressor. Is there something else I’m unaware of?

Hi
Please don’t do Live testing it really isnt necessary 😉
IMO it sounds like either the windings of the compressor or the start unit on the compressor that may be at fault.Greg

So are Bosch freezers any more difficult to repair than others, are they difficult/impossible to repair, parts unobtainable, grossly expensive, etc.?
Is it worth repairing?

Same as any other TBH, click on link below to find a suitable engineer 😀

Yes, thanks, that’s what I’d thought. They’d probably assumed it was a PCB type job.
I clicked on the link and filled the form yesterday; no response.
SWMBO informed me today that she’d ordered a Liebherr. £750! Kinell. 😮
Problem solved, I fear. -
