ParticipantHello,
I have a GSU3401GB/52 bosch upright frost free freezer which is tending to ice up over several months and in need of manual defrosting.
The control board is correctly switching off the compressor and applying 240 to one end of the defrost heater for about 32 minutes every 12hours and 40 minutes which seems reasonable. The heater element measures about 290 ohms equating to 200 watts as nominal mains voltage which seem OK. The neutral return for the heater element is via some two pin device that I cannot get to with out a full empty and dismantle. It connects into the row of connectors on the extreme top left of the inside of the cabinet (White connector, Black leads). It is the connector nearest the left hand side of the cabinet. see attached photo.

This device measures open circuit both when the freezer is down to temperature as well as at room temperature.
I can only conclude it is some sort of switch or perhaps a fuse as in order for the defrost heater to work, it has to pass around 1 amp.
What is this device, what is its function and where can I get one please. As far as I can see it does not appear on the pasts diagram on the Bosch website.
Thanks in advanceBob

Seems like my problem is not unique. After a bit of a search here, this topic post279731.html?hilit=bosch{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}20thermal{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}20fuse{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}20defrost#p279731
has provided the answer but related to a different model.
A bit of supplementary information as it might help someone.
There are four Triac switches on the control board.
These are
16amp Switch for compressor runs when demand is present and is forced off during defrost cycles
4 amp Switch for main defrost heater which switches on for about 33minutes every 12hr 40min
1 amp Switch for the drain tray heater runs during defrost and for 10minutes after the main heater goes off.
1 amp Switch of air circulation fan runs after door shut and sporadically during the cooling cycle.
All the triacs provide switched live to their loads
The thermal fuse provides the neutral return for both the main and drain tray defrost heaters.Regards
