Bosch HBC84K5508/04 integrated microwave oven. FD 8603.

Saw this today with a sparking type burn mark on the edge of the inner door glass frame. Glass had shattered but holding together like a windscreen and the mesh shield behind was spark damaged. Customer swears there have been no metal items put in the machine, so I can’t really see what has caused it.

Anyone had this fault with this type of m/wave? Also how does the frame that goes on the inside of the door (holds the glass 441202 and the shield 441201 with the gaskets) come off? Don’t want to start prying it off as the glass is so delicate, so any hints on removal?

    Cheers,

    Steve.

The normal reason for this fault is a grease/fat/food debris buildup on the bottom edge of the inner glass. The concentration of grease creates a ‘hotspot’ and hence a flare up which in turn creates thermal shock . You should find that the glass shattering radiates from an single point at the bottom of the glass and that’s where the build up is. Just advise your customer to keep the bottom edge clean.
As for access to replace it. …I’ll get back later this afternoon 🙂

Just checked the model and its not too bad a job.
Undo the two big screws at the top of the inner door . This releases the outer door which you lift up and away. With the outer door off , unscrew and remove the left and right hinge brackets from the door inner and then lift off the main part of the door from the hinges. Voila ! Door removed and ready for inner glass access. Just a quick note. Make sure you put all the unassembled parts up the right way on refitting as the mesh sometimes has different holes for the inner glass screws. ….of which there are a lot. Due to having done a ‘few’ , this particular job only takes me approx 20mins….If I’ve charged my drill enough 🙂
